Northern Virginia, in the Piedmont, is also
famous for federal government jobs.
Many northern Virginians work for the Federal government,
because Washington, D.C., our nation’s capital, is just across the
Potomac River. They go across the Potomac River every day to
work. There are also some federal government buildings in
northern Virginia itself, where Virginians are employed. Federal
government jobs are a major industry of the Piedmont.

Richmond work for the state government. State
