VITAMIN E AND VITAMIN K PREDENTED BY – MUKUL TAMBE

VITAMIN E Fat soluble Tochopherol Vitamin in search of disease Anti-sterility vitamin Natural Antioxidant

VITAMIN E CHEMISTRY: About 8 tochopherols of Vit . E Most active are α , β , γ - tochopherol

Dietary Sources : Primary: Wheat gram oil, Cotton seed oil, Peanut oil, Sunflower Oil etc. Secondary: Meat, Milk, Egg Yolk.

NORMAL REQUIREMENT & RDA: Infants : 4-5 mg/day (0 to 6 months) 2. Children : 6 to 11 mg/day (1 to 14 yrs) 3 . Adults : 15 mg/day RDA : 10mg/day

ABSORPTION TRANSPORT & STORAGE: A- Small intestine with fats & bile salts T- Liver through LDL & VLDL S- Adipose tissues of Liver

Biochemical Fuctions : Essential for Membrane structure & integrity (MEMBRANE ANTIOXIDANT) Prevents oxidation of PUFA & RBC from Haemolysis Closely associated with Reproductive Function Synthesis of haem by enhancing activity of enzyme δ - aminolevulinic acid (ALA) synthatase & ALA dehyratase Cellular respiration through electron transport chain

6. Prevents oxidation of Vit . A & carotenes 7. Storage of creatinine in skeletal muscle 8. Optimal absorption of A.A. from intestine 9. Synthesis of neucliec acids 10. Protection of liver from toxic compounds like CCl 4 11. With association with Vit . A,C & β -carotene to delay Cataract 12. Prevention of cronic diseases like Cancer

DEFICIENCY SYMPTOMS: Degenerative changes in muscle Megaloblastic anaemia Changes in CNS Sterility TOXICITY: Least toxic

VITAMIN K Fat soluble Coagulation of blood German word- Koagulation Naphthoquinone derivatives- K 1, K 2, K 3

VITAMIN K

DIATORY SOURCES:

NORMAL REQUIREMENT & RDA: Infants : 10 to 20 micrograms/day Children :15 to 100 micrograms/day 14 to 25 yr old Men : 120 micrograms/day Adult Wemen : 90 micrograms/day RDA : 70 to 140 microgram/day

ABSORPTION TRANSPORT & STORAGE: A- Along with Fats( chylomicrons ) & bile salts T- along with LDL S- liver & other tissues

BIOCHEMICAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Blood clotting:

2. Coenzyme for carboxylation of glutamic acid 3. Conversion of glutamate( Glu ) to γ - carboxyglutamate ( Gla ) by dicumarol

Deficiency Diseases: Incrased blood clotting time Hypervitaminosis : Haemolytic anaemia Jaundice

THANK YOU!!
