INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION Vitamins are those organic compound which are essential for normal growth and nutrition of the body. Vitamins cannot be synthesised /produced by the human body, this , our diet must contain vitamins .

V itamins are mainly divided into two types – 1.W ater soluble vitamins 2.F at soluble vitamins

W ater soluble vitamins W ater soluble vitamins are not store in our body. VITAMIN A 1.Vitamin A helps to form and maintain healthy teeth ,bones ,soft tissue . 2.Liver is the major source of vitamin A. 3.vitamin A occur only in animal tissue . 4.Vitamin A is found in two form A1 and A2. 5.Vitamin a contain milk product ,fish liver oil and animal liver.

Mechanism of vitamin A The overall mechanism through which vitamin A function is visual system is know as rhodopsin cycle Contain 2 type of receptor of cell 1. cones 2.rodes Cones – which are specialized for colour and detail vision in bright light Rodes – which are specialized for visual activity in dim light .

Vitamin B1 (thiamine) 1.Stated earlier the discovery of thaimin comes from the treatment of beri – beri in man 2.The structure of thaimin as free base. Function 1.it help in carbohydrate metabolism. 2.It help in function of heart. Sources- milk,pulses,wheat,dairy product.

Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) Function 1.It help in oxidation and utilisation of oxygen . 2.These vitamin are essential for human health. 3.It is crucial for breakdown food components absorbing other nutrients and maintain tissue. 4.Riboflavin occur naturally in some foods,added to other ,it is absorbed in the small intestine .

VITAMIN B3(niacin) 1.B3 is important in the body for general good health. 2.As a treatment ,amount of niacin can improve cholesterol levels and lower cardiovascular risks. 3.It can also cause serious side effect take larger doses .

Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid ) 1.It is widely found in both plants and animals including meat,cereal,legumes 2.Its necessary for making blood cells. 3.It help you convert the food you eat into energy 4.All B vitamin help you to convert the protein , carbohydrate .

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine ) It is a mixture of three substance pyridoxine,pyridoxaland and pyridoxamine . Source –cereal , gram,rice and egg York. The deficiency of vitamin B6 cause anemia ..

Vitamin B8 ( inositol) 1.Found in many plants and animals 2.Produced in the human body 3.Inositol can be found in many forms . 4.It help in insulin in work better. 5.The side effect of inositol is sleeping,headache , nausea.

Vitamin B9 (folic acid ) 1.Found in supplements and fortified food 2.Folic acid is crucial for proper brain function. 3. All B vitamin are water soluble 4.Play important role in mental health.

Vitamin B12 ( cyanocobalmin ) function 1.it is essential for the metabolism of nervous tissue. 2. it is necessary for the formation of heathy blood 3. it is essential for preventing the disease called pernicious anemia source - liver , milk,egg,kidney . The deficiency of vitamin B12 cause inflammation of toungue and mouth.

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid ) Found in various food and sold as a dietary supplements. It is used to prevent and treat seurvy It is essential nutrient involved in the repair of tissue and the enzymatic production of certain neurotransmitter. Sources – ambla , tomatoes,mangoes,pear,apple .

Vitamin D ( 1.It helps your body absorb calcium . 2.Calcium is one of the main building blocks of bone. A lack of vitamin D can leads to bones disease such as osteroporisis 3.Vitamin D also have role in your nerve , muscle and immune system . 4.The deficiency of vitamin D cause rickets .

Vitamin E It is a fat soluble antioxidant help in maintance of healthy skin. Vitamin E is agroup of molecule with related structure . Some of which may be unique properties in skin. Vitamin E is also found as vitamin E conjugates that increase stability but require cellular metabolism for activation.

Function of vitamin E Function 1. it play an important role in the production of vitamin A 2. it is necessary for the normal reproduction and protection of liver. Sources –vegetable oil, milk, tomatoes ,egg, groundnuts.

Vitamin K It is a group of structurally similar,fat soluble vitamin that the human body require for complete synthesis of certain protein. These protein that are prerequister for blood coagulation. The main function of vitamin K is that it help in clotting of blood and prevents naemorrhage .. Source – spinach tomatoes, soyabean , cabbage.
