International Citizen Service International Citizen Service (ICS) is the UK’s leading global volunteering programme for young people who want to do voluntary development work abroad. ICS brings together young people from different countries to fight poverty – with volunteers from the UK working alongside overseas volunteers . ICS offers 18 to 25-year-olds a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience international development work as part of a properly structured, government funded programme . Funded by the Department for International Development (DFID), ICS is led by VSO, in partnership with a number of respected development organisations . All overseas projects are run by partners with expertise in international and youth volunteering. Each partner is working towards three development outcomes: Project impact overseas Volunteer personal development Active citizens in the UK and overseas
ICS currently has projects in 29 of the world’s poorest countries; you could volunteer in Africa , volunteer in Asia or volunteer in Latin America . International Service is one of 11 charities delivering ICS programmes , as such there are volunteer placements available in countries not provided on the International Service ICS programme .
International Service International Service is a development charity that has been changing lives for the better for more than 60 years by empowering some of the world's poorest and most marginalised people. In particular, the organisation works to protect and promote the rights of women, people with disabilities, children and young people and other disadvantaged groups . Our vision Is a fairer world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential. Our mission Is to empower and strengthen individuals, organisations and communities, build capacity, promote inclusion and maximise potential.
What they Do? They help their partners to become strong, effective organisations by providing assistance to develop the quality of their projects with a focus on providing sustainable outcomes. By working with community-based organisations at a grassroots level; established national and international charities; local, regional and national government bodies we take a rights-based approach to achieving sustainable development. When people are denied their basic human rights, they are denied opportunities; fostering a cycle of poverty and inequality. With human rights at the heart of everything we do, we work with partners to increase peoples understanding of their rights to empower and foster growth and change.
