INTRODUCTION What Is A Water Filter? A water filter is a device that purifies water by removing impurities and contaminants, improving its safety and cleanliness. It can use physical, chemical, or combined methods to achieve this. Water filters are used in homes, businesses, and industries to meet specific water quality standards and needs.
WHAT DOES THE WATER FILTRATION DO? .Valuable natural resources on Earth .71% of Earth’s surface .Example of natural sources of water: Rainwater, River , Groundwater , Lakes , etc.
Including Four Layer
First Layer : Cotton .Falling into the clean water container .Block and filter out larger parpiculates
Second Layer : Sand .Remove all the suspended matter, as well as floating and sinkable particles .Improve the colour , taste and odor of the water
Third layer : Small Stones . to remove dirt and debris from water, making it cleaner to use .Helps removing the poor taste and discoloration
Final Layer : Big Stones .Keep the filter media stable and prevent it from shifting or clogging, ensuring smooth water flow . Preventing the smaller filtering materials from moving around and blocking the flow of water. This ensures effective filtration.

Steps To Make A Water Filter Step 1 : Prepare some cotton, large stones, small stones, sand, a plastic bottle, and two PVC pipe. Step 2 : Cut the plastic bottle and divided into two sections. Step 3 : put the cotton at the bottom of the plastic bottle. Then , put the sand on it ,followed by small stones and lastly big stones. Step 4 : Make a hole at the top and bottom of the plastic bottle to facilitate the installation of the PVC pipe. Step 5 : Cover the other cut section of the plastic bottle to the first section. Step 6 : Direct the dirty water into the filter to obtain clean water.
Why Did We Choose This Design??? . this design allows each component to have its specific function. .This design is cost-effective because it utilizes environmentally-friendly materials.
The diagram above shows the equipment and materials used during the process of water filtration. These include cloudy water (1500ml), a cylindrical cup, a conical filter funnel, and materials such as charcoal (a), small stones (b), and sand (c) used as the three filtration layers. The height of the cone is ½ of the height of the cylindrical cup.
If the ratio of the heights of the materials used as filtration layers is the same, find the height of the sand layer. Answer: 1/2 × 30 = 15 cm 1/3 × 15 = 3 cm ii) After the filtration process, only 90% of the water is obtained. What is the volume of the filtered result? Answer: 90% of 1500ml 90/100 × 1500 =1350ml/cm³
iii) Next, find the height of the water (filtered result) in the cylindrical cup. Round it to 2 decimal places. (π = 22/7) Answer: Volume of the cylinder = π j²t 1350 = π j²t 1350 = 22/7 × 10² × t 22/7×10² × t = 1350 22/7 × 10² × t = 1350 t = 1350/10² × 7/22 t = 4.30 cm iv) To ensure the filtered result is safe to drink, it needs to be boiled. If after the boiling process, the height of the water in the cup decreases to 4 cm, what is the displaced volume? Round it to 2 decimal places. (π = 22/7) Answer: Lost height = 4.30cm - 4.00 cm = 0.30 cm Displaced volume of water = 22/7 × 10² × 0.3 = 94.29 cm³
