What Is Water ? Water is the only substance that naturally exists on the earth's surface in all three of its forms. Water is one of the most abundant and important compounds. In small quantities water appears colorless, but water actually has an intrinsic blue color due to the slight absorption of light at red wavelengths.

Water Source and Cycle There are two main sources of water: surface water and groundwater . - Surface water is found in lakes, rivers, and reservoirs . - Groundwater lies below the surface of the soil, where it flows and fills openings in rocks . This water cycle process is in the form of : Sea water or water on land will evaporate, then rise to the sky and gather in the air to form water clumps. The clouds that collect in the sky then melt, causing raindrops to fall to the earth's surface. From that point of rain, some of it flows directly through the river to the sea. Some will be absorbed into the bowels of the earth, but some will agglomerate into ice. The water reserves on the earth's surface will later evaporate back into the form of clouds, and carry out the same rotation process continuously and repeatedly.

Water Cycle

Water also has special characteristics, namely physical characteristics and chemical characteristics. Physical characteristics of water include turbidity, temperature, color, dissolved residue, suspended residue, odor, and taste. Turbidity can occur due to organic or inorganic materials, such as industrial waste, domestic waste, and sludge . Chemical characteristics of water include: DO (Dissolved Oxygent ), COD (Chemical Oxygent Demand), BOD (Biological Oxygent Demand), pH (Degree of acidity). Characteristic Of Water

Water Function The function of water is very essential for all life, although it seems that water is now available everywhere, but clean water is the most important thing to be accessible to all living things for their survival. For example, drinking. In everyday life, water is used for drinking, bathing, cooking, washing, cleaning the house, drug solvents, and carriers of industrial waste materials. One of the basic daily needs of living things in this world that cannot be separated is water.

Mechanism of Disease Transmission Through Water The mechanism of transmission of the disease is divided into four, namely : Waterborne mechanism in which diseases are transmitted directly through drinking water, where the water contains pathogenic germs that cause the person concerned to become sick. For example : hepatitis , cholera. Waterwashed Mechanisms Transmission is related to general and personal hygiene. In this mechanism there are three modes of transmission, namely: infection through the organs, digestion, skin and eyes, and transmission through rodents. Water-based mechanism Diseases that are transmitted through this mechanism have germs that undergo part of their life cycle in contact with water. For example, schistosomiasis. Mechanism of Water-related insect vectors diseases caused by vectors which are partially or wholly in the water. Included in this category are filariasis , dengue, malaria.
