5. Unfamiliar Words Wayang Kulit Wayang – is a Malay or Indonesian term for “Theater” Kulit – “Skin”; refers to the leather construction of the puppets. Dalang – the puppeteer Suluk - the opening of the puppet is called suluk . Suluk is a form of song in which in the Surakarta style there is sulukan pathet , sendhon , and ada-ada . Gamelan orchestras - comprised of several types of mallet instruments, or keyboard-style instruments struck with mallets or hammers, as well as different drums, flutes, and occasionally stringed instruments or vocalists. The word 'gamelan' is derived from the Indonesian word meaning 'hammer.

6. Puppet Play/Theater Shadow play also known as shadow puppetry, is an ancient form of storytelling and entertainment which uses flat articulated cut-out figures (shadow puppets) which are held between a source of light and a translucent screen or scrim.

7. INDONESIA THEATER Wayang Kulit or Shadow Puppet is a popular Indonesian theater. The dalang makes ready all the facilities used like cloth and the bright light for the shadow. Also, the dalang sings the mood songs ( suluk ) at regular intervals during performances.

8. INDONESIA THEATER Wayang Kulit was performed in the royal court and widely performed in public on religious occasions so that knowledge of wayang became widespread among all classes in Java.
