Everyday
functional texts
Two types of everyday functional texts:
Linear text – continuous lines of sentences forming a

Non-linear text – discontinuous lines of sentences
forming a creative layout or visual in a fragment-
based document
Linear texts such as, announcements, notices,
text messages, sticky notes (continuous
messages), billboards, advertisements
(paragraph for), journal entry, informational
article, emails, narratives
Non-linear texts such as signs, flyers, posters,
schedules, menus, sticky notes (if written in a
list), to-do lists or shopping list, advertisements
(with bullet points, headings and mixed layouts)
