Why is the six-point movement called the Bengali Liberation Charter? As the six-point demand was about the social, economic, and political emancipation of Bengalis, it is called the Charter of Bengali Mukti. Awami League President Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman presented 6-point demands in a conference of opposition parties held in Lahore on February 5-6, 1966. The six-point program was the first strong protest against the discriminatory behavior of the Pakistani ruling group. It raised strong demands for the highly anticipated autonomy of Bengalis. Although independence is not directly mentioned, this program inspires Bengalis with the mantra of independence. That is why the six points are called the Charter of Liberation of the Bengali nation.
