2. Wethania cogulance -A miracle for diabetes
Wethaniacogulance(Ashutosh booti/Paneer Dodi) is a plant in
the Solanaceae family is regarded as one of the plants with
potent anti diabetic properties and well known for its ethno
pharmacological activities.
•It is common in Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan and East-West India conjointly
used in folk medicine. This plant commonly known as Indian cheese maker
has been used for vegetable rennet fermented and preparing cheese,
which is attributed to the enzymatic activity of Paneer Dodi fruit.
•Different parts of this plant have been reported to possess a variety of
living activities. Paneer dodihas been shown to exert hypoglycemic,
hypolipidemic, free radical scavenging, cardiovascular, central nervous
system depressant, hepatoprotective, and anti-inflammatory, wound
healing, antitumor, immuno-suppressive, cytotoxic, antifungal and
antibacterial properties.
•The twigs are chewed for cleaning of teeth and the smoke of the plant is
inhaled for relief in toothache. A large numbers of phytochemical have
been isolated from Wethaniacogulancefruit extract, which are
responsible for various pharmacological actions.

3. Classification of Withanolides
The withanolidesare polyoxygenated
steroids with a C28 ergostaneskeleton.
A common feature is the presence of oxygen
atoms at C-1, C-22, and C-26 although
a few exceptions with a non-functionalized
C22 are included. They may be classified
into two major groups depending on the
arrangement of the side chain, those with a
d-lactone or d-lactolcomprising C-22 and C-
26 and those with a g-lactone usually
involving C-23 and C-26
•Withanolides are a group of
steroids that have been shown
in laboratory tests to suppress
cancer cells and act as an
antioxidant.
•These steroids come from
Withaniasomnifera, or
ashwagandha, a shrub that is
native to India, Pakistan, and Sri
Lanka.
•The roots of the plant contain a
chemical compound called
withanolide, which has been the
focus of medical research.
