What is Postmodernism? Postmodernism is the idea that reality is not mirrored in human understanding, but rather constructed as individuals find their own reality It takes a micro rather than macro approach in looking at the way individuals identify themselves, compared to the structuralism view, in which an entire society is looked at Postmodernists believe that realities are subject to change, and that apparent realities are actually social constructs which limit individuals

How does it relate to our music video and digipak ? This relates to our music video because it is based in a city; cities are formed under careful planning and often mass/large-scale production (linked to Modernism) Postmodernists reject the idea of mass consumption, and therefore the modernism theory altogether, and focus instead on aiming to create diversity within the hustle and bustle of a city’s skyscrapers Postmodernism caused the variation of building size, shape and appearance where previously it had become difficult to distinguish one from another

How have we used postmodernism to influence ideas? Due to our video taking place in the busy streets of Tokyo City, we knew that we were going to face a challenge when constructing our digipak At first we thought of going to London in order to get an image of a city to include on the front cover of the album, but this soon proved to be difficult because we realised we wanted a high angle shot looking down on the entire city; as well as this we found that London would not be a suitable location because it looks so completely different to Tokyo It is for this reason that we used an image from the internet, and through the theory of postmodernism, managed to find an image which incorporated the different styles of urban building
