What is Sponsorship

Definition This is when a business supports an event, activity or an organisation such as a sports team, in exchange for having its name or product directly linked with the event. Sponsorship is usually in the form of money but it may also be in the form of donations of equipment or resources.

Advantages It can be a good way of increasing the awareness of a brand or product. It can also be used to create a permanent association of a brand with the activity or event. If a certain brand advertised with a football team that team might feel good about the brand when the see it as the associate it with their football team.

Disadvantages Where as if the rival football team sees the advert and associates it with their rivals they may not want to buy the product as it doesn’t support them. And if a business supports an event that is not a success and no one liked it this may reflect on the businesses sales and popularity.
