Wheat grass is considered as a cleansing and purifying agent from ancient times and yet can be used for its healing properties. It has high nutritional values too. The leaves contain many constituents such as proteins, flavanoids , alkaloids, glycosides, terpenoides , fibers, tannins and phenolic compounds. Wheat grass is also rich in chlorophyll. It is commonly known as the “green blood” due to its high chlorophyll content which accounts for 70% of its chemical constituents Wheat grass juice is the richest source of vitamins , minerals and 17 amino acids

Cultivation Wheat grass can be grown indoors and outdoors A common method – Sprout production indoors is often on trays Leaves are harvested when they develop a “split” as another leaf emerges These can be cut off with scissors

Fresh wheatgrass generally gives best juice at height of 9-10 inches.

Product of Wheat grass

Conclusion Wheatgrass juice is extracted from wheatgrass harvested at the height of 9-10 cm which may be achieved generally in 3-4 days after sowing. The growth is generally faster in indoor condition than outdoor . It is easily absorbed in the bloodstream within 20 min. of consumption because of its highly chlorophyll content. It may consumed empty stomach or before having meals in the form of juice or dried powder mixed with soups, green tea, curd etc. Wheat grass contains high Iron and effective in the improvement of hemoglobin level Consumption of WGJ reduced the duration and amount of blood transfused and increase the Hb retention at pre -transfusion stage Highly beneficial in curing heated PUFA and alcohol induced liver damaged

WGJ effective in cholesterol absorption and fecal cholesterol excretion, it reduced the risk of fractures and help in bone formation Supplementation with wheat grass provided better protection against lipid peroxidation and decreased oxidative stress Highly beneficial in curing heated PUFA and alcohol induced liver damaged It has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic, immunomodulatory , laxative, astringent, diuretic, antibacterial and anti-aging properties. Wheatgrass juice helps in building red blood cells and stimulates healthy tissue cell growth. Recommended doses are upto 100 ml juice three times a day and up to 6 gram of powder three times a day.
