When Technology and
Humanity Cross
Chapter 7

The good life entails living in a just and
progressive society whose citizens have
the freedom to flourish the human person
has the autonomy to make choices which
may enable the flourishing of his/her self
and society.

UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human
Rights) was proclaimed by United
Nations General Assembly on December
10, 1948 as the global standard of
fundamental human rights for universal
recognition and protection.

“Human dignity”
The ultimate core value of our existence is
recognizing and appreciating truth in ourselves and
others, regardless of status. This leads to a just and
progressive society where we become fully human—
free, rational, and loving. Freedom comes from
making choices for our growth, rationality from
applying logic and science, and love from upholding
human dignity in all our actions.

“CONCEPT OF UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS”
The UDHR defines fundamental human rights in 30
articles, emphasizing inalienable rights essential for a
good life. Justice requires not only equal treatment
but also special consideration for the disadvantaged.
-The first seven articles of the UDHR embody the
essence of a historic human rights milestone,
emphasizing equality, dignity, freedom, and legal
protection for all.

◦ Article 1
All humans are born free and equal, with dignity, rights,
reason, and conscience, and should treat each other with
brotherhood.
◦ Article 2
Everyone has equal rights and freedoms, regardless of race,
gender, language, religion, opinions, origin, or status. No one
should be discriminated against based on their country's political
or territorial status.
◦ Article 3
Everyone has the right to life, freedom, and safety.

◦ Article 4
Slavery and servitude are prohibited in all forms.
◦ Article 5
No one should face torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading
treatment.
◦ Article 6
Everyone has the right to life, freedom, and safety.
◦ Article 7
Everyone is equal before the law and has the right to
equal protection against discrimination.

Human vs. Robot
Robots, usually designed like human beings, created to perform
complex, repetitive or dangerous tasks. Artificial intelligence (AI)
robots eventually act and decide like humans.

Nicolas Carr (2008) asserted that " as
we come to rely on computers to
mediate our understanding of the
world, it is our own intelligence that
flattens into artificial intelligence."

The ethical and societal implications of
artificial intelligence (AI), particularly its
impact on employment and human
identity. It highlights concerns about job
losses due to AI automation, the ethical
treatment of AI as machines become
more human-like, and how humans, in
turn, may adopt machine-like behaviors.

The ease of accessing information
through AI-powered search engines
raises concerns about diminishing
human intelligence and critical
thinking.

WHY THE FUTURE DOES NOT NEED US
-Bill joy

“Bill Joy”
He contended that our most powerful
21st-century technologies - genetics,
nanotech, and robotics (GNR) - are
threatening to make humans an
endangered species.

THANK YOU!

Science and technology reflect
human rationality, capable of
shaping or destroying the world. If
misused with arrogance, they may
lead to corruption and destruction.
