Will India become a
superpower??

Introduction :
A superpower is a state with a dominant position in
the international system which has the ability to
influence events and its own interests and project
power on a worldwide scale to protect those interests .
Potential superpowers are BRIC ( Brazil, Russia , India
and China) based on a variety of factors.

Objectives :
The objective of the research paper :
1 . To find out the factors why India will not
become superpower .
2 .To study optimistic views on the
affirmation that India will be superpower .

YES India will become superpower
1.Population and geography
2.Growing Indian Economy
3.Boosting Stock market :
4.Intellectual Capital & Outsourcing
5.Military Buildup

Second largest country on earth in population
Seventh largest in geographical area, over 1.1
million square miles. This is almost 1,000
people for every square mile of area
nationwide much denser than even China.
Half its population is younger than twenty five
350 million Indians understand English ,
making it the largest English using country in
the world
Population , Demographics and
Geography :

Grown an average of around 6%
annually over the past decade and 8%
per year over the past three years—
among the fastest rates in the world
Growing Indian Economy :

Roaring stock market (index value up
by a third in 2005 and by 200% since
2001).
Boosting Stock Market :

India is having surplus intellectual
workforce . Scientific and information
technology companies from around the
world are opening research and
development labs in India—more than
100 in the past five years.
Intellectual Capital and Outsourcing :

Indian Defense Ministry has earmarked
$2 billion annually to build 300 to 400
weapons over the next 5 to 7 years.
Military Builtup:

No India will not become superpower :
1.Education
2.Poverty :
3.Gender Disparity :
4.Unemployment :
5.Diversity :
6.Wrong Import Export Policies :
7.Politics and Corruption :

The Times Of India recently brought to
light the fact that the number of
illiterate in the country outnumber the
population of the whole of United
States.
Education :

Two-thirds of India’s population
resides in rural areas.
Statistics show 170 million people in
India are poor.
More than 21 per cent of them are
self-pitying in chronic poverty.
Poverty :

Gender inequalities.
Female feticide .
Child Marriages
Gender Disparity :

8.9 million Indians are unemployed .
Unemployment :

India is conglomerate of diverse ethnic,
cultural, financial, lingual groups .
But still caught in the clutches of
communal violence .
Diversity without unity
Diversity :

Ratan Tata has urged the Prime
Minister of our country to stop export of
iron ore to other countries without value
addition.
Wrong Import Export Policies :

The biggest hurdle which will be
stopping India in fulfilling its dream of
becoming superpower is the corruption
at each and every level
Politics and Corruption :

Predictions are afterall predications .Predictions
has not been perfect. For example, in the 1980s,
many political and economic analysts predicted
that Japan would be superpower, due to its large
population, huge gross domestic product and
high economic growth at that time.

India becoming superpower is not possible in
very near future . It is only when India embraces
its own people and works to eradicate the
problems of inequality , illiteracy , the most
important being corruption at the grass root
levels and empowered its own people then and
then only that India will truly become a
superpower.
Conclusion :

THANK YOU
