Status of women in ancient India: In ancient India women enjoyed equivalent status and rights like their male counterparts. In addition, they were properly educated in the early vedic period.
Women at that time had freedom to make their own decisions. They were free to choose their life partner as well. This system was popularly known as ‘Swyamwar’. In fact, during that period women had superior condition than men. However, the situation never remained the same in the Medival India!
