2. SYMBOLS The Astronaut Helmet: It is a symbol of Auggie’s own insecurity about the way he looks. The fact when the helmet was thrown out confirms that Auggie has lost his old insecurity. Star Wars: It is a symbol of his childhood . Daisy (the dog): It is a symbol of loyalty and love (unconditional love). No matter what Auggie looks like, Daisy loves him no matter what.

He betrays August and laughs at him behind his back, but he later apologizes for his actions. During the novel, Jack learns how to treat August with kindness, becoming a better person.
