football-shaped houses. They’re

in an earthquake or a flood. In these
homes, the bedrooms are above
the living room. You need to climb a
ladder to get into bed. These houses
haven’t got basements or balconies.
Each house has got 32 parts, just

windows, and some windows open to
the sky. When you’re lying in bed at

During the day, they slept in the
caves, so we brought torches to see

The bats there were smaller than

Cats and dogs can be friends, even when
the cats are cheetahs. For some cheetahs,
dogs have an important role in their lives.
Sometimes, cheetahs need friends to play with
because their mothers can’t care for them. In
some zoos in the United States, these friends
are puppies. Pancake is a cheetah cub and Dayo
is a puppy. They met as babies, and they played
really well together. Now, they’re good friends.

parents bought her at a
pet shop. We all love her
very much. Nelly’s favourite
person in our family is my
mother because she feeds
Nelly every day. She comes
quickly when we call “Nelly!”
Mirna, 10, Peru
Our parrot, Arturo,
is a clever bird. He
can talk, and he can also count
to five now. My mum taught him,
and it was hard work. My parrot
can say lots of words, but his
favourite words are “What’s for
dinner?” He’s always very hungry!
Alvin, 12, Canada
Our dog, Mattie, is really smart.
He can do clever tricks, but
sometimes he’s very naughty!
One day, he chased another dog
in the park, and we lost him.
We looked everywhere for him,
but we didn’t find him. We were
really sad, and we went home.
Who was at the front door?
Our dog, Mattie!

Deep underground, there is a special heat:
geothermal energy (geo means ‘’earth’’ and
thermal means ‘’heat’’ in Greek). We need
energy to light our homes and cook. The
sun and wind provide clean energy, but
geothermal energy can help people even
more.
The Boiling River, deep in the Amazon
rainforest, has very hot water (up to
99°C). This water is dangerous for
animals. Scientists are studying the river
to understand geothermal energy better.
They also protect other parts of the
Amazon. They don’t want people to cut
down trees and destroy the rainforest.
We hope that people will save the
environment and save geothermal energy.

Hey, Kevin! My family and I are going on a hike this
weekend. We’re going geocaching. Want to come with
us?
What’s geocaching?
It’s like a treasure hunt. We use a special app on our
phones and GPS to find hidden treasure boxes.
That sounds exciting! I love treasure hunts!
Well, it’s not real treasure, just a box with a notebook
and some objects. We can take something and leave a
toy for the next person. We’ll also write our names in
the notebook.
Are there geocaches nearby?
Yes! They’re everywhere! The app shows nine hidden
geocaches in the forest near our house.
Great! I’m in! What time should I be ready?
We’ll leave at 8.30 a.m.
Will it rain? Will we need to bring umbrellas and
raincoats?
It won’t rain, so we won’t need those.

• Listen and chant - hoạt động hỗ trợ phát âm và nhận dạng âm thanh.
• Fun time and project - hoạt động giúp học sinh ôn lại kiến thức bài học
