Introduction World Trauma Day, observed on October 17th, raises global awareness about the impact of trauma and advocates for its prevention, treatment, and support.
What Is Trauma? Trauma refers to emotional, psychological, or physical distress resulting from distressing events. It can have lasting effects on mental and physical health, requiring care, understanding, and support.

Types of Trauma
Trauma Causes Accidents Violence Natural disasters Abuse Loss and grief Military combat Medical procedures Witnessing distressing events Childhood adversity Environmental disasters.
Intensity duration and timing Children are more susceptible for post-traumatic difficulties during critical growth periods, i.e., the first three years of their life Genetics P arent /(s) have/had anxiety disorders or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Environment People living in abusive environments have more significant disruptions in care and attachment. In-utero experiences Infants born to pregnant mothers during a traumatic event can have low birth weight and increased cortisol levels Family Dynamics T raumatic events with family members, like incest; verbal, physical, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, early death of a parent; broken homes, etc. What Can Develop Trauma ?
Modelling excessive modelling of high-risk behaviours like smoking or substance abuse Lack of resilience factors protective resources that alleviate the impact of Trauma .

THE THREE “E’S” OF TRAUMA: EVENT(S), EXPERIENCE OF EVENT(S), AND EFFECT Events -The actual or extreme threat of physical or psychological harm. May occur as a single event or over time. Experience- How the individual experiences the event . How the event is experienced may be linked to a range of factors including the individual’s cultural development. Effects- The critical component of trauma. Can be immediate or long term effects. The duration of the effects can be short to long term.
