WRITING REsumE and Application Letter (Types, formats and sample)

What is Resume? A summary of one’s relevant qualifications. It is a written compilation of your education, work experience, credentials, and accomplishments and is used to apply for jobs. is a document used by persons to present their backgrounds and skills.

4 Sections of Resume Heading -Tells the reader who the applicant is and how he/she can be reached. Education section -comes after the heading Work experience section -About your past jobs. Reference section -List of person who can vouch for the applicant’s character and qualifications.

The people who can be mentioned in the reference part must meet certain criteria. The people in the reference section must not be related to the applicant, either by blood or by affinity, to avoid having a biased or subjective recommendation. They must be persons of authority and credibility. The more important the person is in the community, the more credible that person will be to the reader. They must not be politicians who perfunctorily give anybody a good reference, even people they do not know. They must, of course, know the applicant personally.

Tips on how to make an effective Resume Keep descriptions brief. Limit the Resume to one page only. Emphasize important phrases with underscoring. Use equal side margins, and equal top and bottom margins. Use white, short or long bond paper only. Make sure the print is dark and clean. Prepare an original Resume on good quality paper for each interview. Proofread carefully.

Types of Resume Chronological Resume : A chronological resume starts by listing your work history, with the most recent position listed first. Your jobs are listed in reverse chronological order with your current, or most recent job, first. Employers typically prefer this type of resume because it's easy to see what jobs you have held and when you have worked at them. Functional Resume : A functional resume focuses on your skills and experience, rather than on your chronological work history. It is used most often by people who are changing careers or who have gaps in their employment history.

Combination Resume: A combination resume lists your skills and experience first. Your employment history is listed next. With this type of resume you can highlight the skills you have that are relevant to the job you are applying for, and also provide the chronological work history that employers prefer.
