FINGERS PRESENTER : AHAMMED SABIQ COURSE : BSC MIT 2 ND YEAR MODERATOR: Mrs. SARANYA DATE : 27/04/2024

CONTENTS ANATOMY PA OBLIQUE LATERAL

ANATOMY The hand is composed of many different bones, muscles, and ligaments that allows movement There are 3 major types of bones in hand Carpals Metacarpals phalanges

ANATOMY Phalanges- There are 14 bones found in the fingers of each hand Each finger has three phalanges (the distal, middle, and proximal)The thumb only has two

RADIOLOGICAL ANATOMY

Finger PA INDICATION Fracture Dislocation Pre and post operative assessment CONTRAINDICATIONS Pregnancy

PATIENT PREPARATION Remove metal objects like jeweler
Wear comfortable clothing or change into a gown before the X-ray Proper communication with patient Finger PA

POSITION OF PATIENT AND CASSETTE The patient is seated alongside the table
The forearm is pronated in contact with the cassette
The finger(s) are extended and separated allowing inter phalangeal joint spaces to appear open A sandbag is placed across the dorsal surface of the wrist for immobilization Finger PA

CENTRING OF THE X-RAY BEAM Centered over the proximal inter-phalangeal joint ESSENTIAL IMAGE CHARACTERISTICS The image should include the fingertip and the distal third of the metacarpal bone Ensure the fingers are equal distant Digit is visualized to include the carpo metacarpal joint Concavity of metacarpal shaft is equal Finger PA

SID : 100cm IR Size : 20 x 25 cm (8 x 10 inch) kVp : 50-60 MAS:2-5 Finger PA TECHNICAL FACTORS

Finger Oblique INDICATION Mallet finger, boutonniere deformity CONTRAINDICATIONS Pregnancy

PATIENT PREPARATION Remove metal objects like jewellery Wear comfortable clothing or change into a gown before the X-ray Proper communication with patient Finger Oblique

POSITION OF PATIENT The patient is seated
Place the affected phalanges to be perpendicular to cassette Place the affected hand on the support with a slope of 45 degree and extend the filming finger completely Finger Oblique

CENTRING OF THE X-RAY BEAM Project perpendicularly toward interphalangeal joint ESSENTIAL IMAGE CHARACTERISTIC Finger lateral view is a standard projection for radiographic assessment of the fingers Finger Oblique

SID:100cm
IR Size :20 × 25 cm (8 x 10 inch)
kVp : 50-60 mAs : 2-5 TECHNICAL FACTORS Finger Oblique

Finger Lateral INDICATION Dislocations Fracture Foreign Bodies Arthropathy conditions (  an infection, such as Lyme disease) CONTRAINDICATIONS Pregnancy

PATIENT PREPARATION Remove metal objects like jewellery
Wear comfortable clothing or change into a gown before the X-ray Proper communication with patient Finger Lateral

POSITION OF PATIENT AND CASSETTE The patient is seated alongside the table Palm of the hand at right-angles to the table Little finger in contact with the film. The affected finger is extended Finger Lateral

DIRECTION AND CENTERING Centered over the proximal inter-phalangeal joint Finger Lateral
