Uses of Yasmin Tablets
Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol combination (Yasmin tablets)
is used to prevent pregnancy. It is a birth control pill that
contains two types of hormones, Drospirenone and Ethinyl
Estradiol, and when taken properly, prevents pregnancy. This
medication works by preventing ovulation (the release of an egg
from an ovary) and by causing changes in the mucus of the
cervix (that makes it difficult for sperm to penetrate into the
uterus) and in the endometrium (that make it difficult for an egg
to implant).
This medicine is also used to treat premenstrual dysphoric
disorder (PMDD) in women at least 16 years of age.

Patients with PMDD may have severe emotional and physical
symptoms 10 to 14 days before their menstrual flow starts.
Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol tablets are also used to treat
moderate acne for women over 16 years of age who also want
birth control and have started menstruating.

Yasmin Tablets During Nursing
When possible, the nursing mother should use other
forms of contraception until she has weaned her child.
Estrogen-containing COCs can reduce milk production in
breastfeeding mothers.
This is less likely to occur once breastfeeding is
well-established; however, it can occur at any time in
some women.
Small amounts of oral contraceptive steroids and/or
metabolites are present in breast milk.
