Buddhism Sit Dolor Amet

Buddhism is one of the world’s major religions. It originated in India in 563–483 B.C.E. with Siddhartha Gautama, and over the next millennia it spread across Asia and the rest of the world.

The events of his life are largely legendary, but he is considered an actual historical figure and a younger contemporary of  Mahavira  (also known as  Vardhamana , l. c. 599-527 BCE) who established the tenets of  Jainism  shortly before Siddhartha's time.

Buddhists believe that human life is a cycle of suffering and rebirth, but that if one achieves a state of enlightenment ( nirvana ), it is possible to escape this cycle forever. Siddhartha Gautama was the first person to reach this state of enlightenment and was, and is still today, known as the Buddha. Buddhists do not believe in any kind of deity or god, although there are supernatural figures who can help or hinder people on the path towards enlightenment.

The Four Noble Truths The truth of suffering (Dukkha) The truth of the origin of suffering ( Samudāya ) The truth of the cessation of suffering ( Nirodha ) The truth of the path to the cessation of suffering ( Magga )

ISLAM

Beliefs: Muslim believe in Allah, who is their “One God.” They believe in the unity and universality of God. Muslims also have a strong sense of community or “ummah” and an awareness of their solidarity with all Muslims worldwide. Islam means “willing submission to God.”

Muslims believe that Mohammed is the last and final prophet sent by God. Mohammed was born in Mecca in 570 CE and received revelations from God through the Angel Gabriel over a period of 23 years. The Holy Book of Islam is called Quran , which was taught to be recited in Arabic because any translation is seen as inadequate.

Customs and Practices: Muslims believe in the five pillars of Islam, which are the foundation of Muslim life: 1. Shahadah¬ – statement of faith: “There is no God but the one true God and Mohammed is his messenger.” 2. Salat – the prayer that is practiced five times a day. 3. Zakat – the monetary offering for the benefit of the poor. It comprises the 2.5% of a Muslim’s assets. 4. Hajj – the yearly pilgrimage to Mecca. Muslims who can afford are asked to do the pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime. 5. Sawm – the fasting. Muslim do fasting, from food, drink, and sexual act, during the celebration of Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The fast is from dawn to sunset.

Two of the major festivals in Islam are Eidul-Fitr and Eidul-Adha . Eidul-Fitr is the celebration at the end of Ramadan, while Eidul-Adha is celebrated within the completion of the Pilgrimage, the Hajj.

Concept of Man: Allah created as the best creature. The Qur'an describes how Allah created Adam: "We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape..." (15:26). And, "He began the creation of man from clay, and made his progeny from a quintessence of fluid" (32:7-8). Thus, human beings have a fundamental attachment to the earth.

They try to reveal both the outer and the inner aspect of man, physical (body) and spiritual aspect ( rūh ) which is embeded in man. They try to dig the deepest meaning of the saying of Prophet “He who knows himslef knows his Lord” (man árafa nafsaḥu árafa rabbaḥu ), and then they conclude that, it is impossible if we know our selves (the nature of human being) but then we deny God existence.
