3. Introduction of Jersey – Jersey is the breed of small , short,horned,dairy cattle originating from one of the channel Island. Jersey produces a pound of milk components at lower cost compared to the other major breeds. Jersey is now the second most popular breed of dairy cow in the world and found more than 100 countries. It is also called alderney cattle.

4. Introduction of Holstein - Holstein is originated from Holland via USA. The weight of Holstein is 680 kg at maturity stage. Breed to produce higher milk and protein yields than any other breed. Sensitive to cold wet condition and need early winter housing

5. ORIGIN AND DISTRIBUTION OF JERSEY - The jersey cattle originated on the island of Jersey over 200 years ago. The jersey is the second most common dairy breed world wide after the Holstein. Available in the most of the country Europe , America,and Europe, especially in England and east and southern country of america

6. ORIGIN AND DISTRIBUTION OF HOLSTEIN- The Holstein friesian is an international breed or group of breeds of dairy cattle. It is originates in the dutches provinces of North holland friesland in northern Germany Country of origin is Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium,France , United Kingdom, Italy. Distribution- world wide.

7. CHARACTERISTICS OF JERSEY- Vary greatly in colour,but the characteristic colour is some shade of fawn ,with or without white markings. Jersey varies From light grey to dark fawn a dark switch is common. Forehead broad and moderately dished with large bright eyes ,clean cut head and proportionate to body. They are especially known for their well shaped udders and strong udder attachment.they are also very angular and refined. More hardy than Holstein – friesian . Cows are small in stature and weigh 400-550 kg.birth weight around 22-23kg male 540 -820 kg UTILITY –MILK PRODUCTION IS 19-25 Kg/d WITH 4.1-4.9 PER BUTTER FAT.

9. CHARACTERISTICS OF HOLSTEIN Holstein n cows have recognizable pattern of black and white markings across their hides with distinct pattern borders through out. They are a large cow , growing up.to 630 kg in adult hood. They have an average shoulder height of 1.47 meters Healthy new borns can weigh over 40 kg at birth. Holstein are the most valued of the cattle breed for various reasons. A healthy Holstein calf weigh 90 pounds or more at birth .A mature holstein cow weight about 1500 pounds and stand 58 inches tall at the shoulder. UTILITY OF THE MILK-Holstein have highest milk productions in the world. On an average it gives 25 litre of milk per day and typically it can produce between 22 and 40 litres of milk every day and 12000 litres per lactation.

Fare better in hot climates Reach puberty eight weeks sooner Have stronger instinct for foraging. Requires less feed to produce high quality milk HOLSTEIN – Holstein cows are on average more profitable than jerseys cows Holstein is the dominant breed in the US dairy of population Holstein cow produce more milk than any breed and give greater income.
