THE MYTH OF ZOROASTER’S BIRTH

Birth Year: 660 BCE Birth Place: Azerbaijan, in northern Persia Father: Pouruchaspa (many horses) Mother: Dughdova (milkmaid) Birthday: March 21 (as part of Persian New Year)

The Name Zoroaster Zoroaster is based from the Persian word “Zarathustra”: Other names that may refer to the Persian prophet are: Zartosht , Zaratas , Zarathushtra , and Zares . Zara – golden and Ushers – light  golden light Zarath – yellow and Ustra – camels  yellow camels

Miracles on his Birth When Zoroaster was born, he laughed instead of cried. His nurse throw him under galloping horses and attempted to take his life through fire, yet he was not harm. Turanian King Durasrobo hired an assassin, but his hand was paralyzed before he could kill the child. Also, the king sent cattle to trample Zoroaster, but it didn't hurt him.

Early Life In his early years, Zoroaster displayed great wisdom, arguing with wise men. At the early age of 16, he displayed intense love and compassion for all living beings. At the age of 20, he left his home, to lead a life of purity and virtue. He spent his time in meditation and reflections.

Family Life Zoroaster had three wives of whom the last was Hvovi (Good Cattle), the daughter of King Vishtaspa's prime minister. With his first wife, he had one son and three daughters; while he had two sons by his second wife.

Vision of Zoroaster Around the age of 30, Zoroaster had a vision of the angel Vohu Mana , who told him a divine revelation from  Ahura Mazda . Part of the revelation included a drive to become an itinerant preacher for the new faith.

Vision of Zoroaster During the next 10 years, Zoroaster had other visions in which each of the archangels of Ahura Mazda appeared and revealed further truth to him: Vohu-Mana (love) Armaiti (piety) Haurvatat (wholeness or perfection) Ameretat (immortality) Asha (knowledge of the law of God) Kshathra (loving service)

Later Life Zoroaster's ideas did not take off quickly and he only had one convert: Maidhyoimanha (his cousin) After 12 years, Zoroaster went to the country of King Vishtaspa (in Bactria ).

Conspiracy The Kavis and Karpans , the chiefs of devil-worshippers, poisoned the ears of King Vishtaspa against the prophet and accused him of being sorcerer. They succeeded in convincing the K ing to put Zoroaster behind the bars and make him die of starvation.

Zoroaster was put into prison fo r sometimes and was later saved by the Lord, for he cured the King’s favorite black horse with the following conditions: The king would accept the new faith The king would consent that his son Isfendiar would defend the new faith The king would allow to covert Queen Hautosa The king would reveal the names of those who had plotted against him and punish them Saved by the Lord

King Vishtaspa also demanded four conditions: King wanted to know his final destiny and place in heaven His body would become invulnerable He would have universal knowledge His soul would not leave his body until resurrection The King and Queen accepted Zoroaster's ideas and made them the official religion of their kingdom. King Vishtaspa’s Conversion

Death of Zoroaster According to tradition, Zoroaster lived for 77 years, thus indicating that he died about 551 BCE.   The manner of Zoroaster’s death is unknown. Some legends reported that he died peacefully , while others said that he was killed while praying . The  death of Zoroaster is commemorated in Iran on December 26, known as “ Zarathust No Diso ” .
