1. Define Mean, Median and Mode. 2. Find the Mean, Median and Mode of ungrouped data. 3. Relate the measures of central tendency in real life .

Write down the numbers from 1-15. Add those numbers Divide the sum by 15, since it is the total number. What is the quotient?

What is mean? Mean is the sum of all the numbers divided by the total number.

Formula in finding the Mean X̅ =   X̅ is the symbol for mean, x 1 to x N represents the numbers added and N is the symbol for the total numbers of data.

What is the mean of the following scores? 15, 19, 19, 18, 17, 13, 12, 10, 18, 20? ANSWER : 16.1

What is the mean of the following scores? 14.5, 13, 18 , 22, 25, 11, 2, 1, 17 ANSWER : 13.72

4, 8, 9, 6, 5, 10, 15, 19, 24, 23, 14 What have you observed in this set of numbers ? 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15,19, 23, 24 What do you think is the middle number of the set ?

ANSWER : 10 In a set of data, there is a middle value. We call it the median .

WHAT IF THERE ARE 586 ENTRIES IN THE DATA SET ? FORMULA : (IF THE TOTAL NUMBER IS ODD) x ̃ = (N+1)/ 2 x ̃is the median and N is the total number of data

REMEMBER ! The answer from this formula is not exactly the median but the location of the median in the data 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15,19, 23, 24 x ̃= (11 +1)/2 x ̃= 6 FORMULA : (N+1)/2 6 th value = 10 is the median

6, 9, 12, 13, 2, 4, 9, 10, 19, 21, 29, 12 What have you observed in this set of numbers? 2, 4, 6, 9, 9, 10, 12, 12, 13, 19, 21, 29 What is the total number of data ? N =12

2, 4, 6, 9, 9, 10, 12, 12, 13, 19, 21, 29 N = 12 WHAT IS THE MEDIAN ? FORMULA : ( IF THE TOTAL NUMBER IS EVEN) x ̃= [(N/2 ) + (N/2 + 1)] / 2

2, 4, 6, 9, 9, 10, 12, 12, 13, 19, 21, 29 N = 12 FORMULA: x ̃= [(N/2 ) + (N/2 + 1)] / 2 x ̃= [(12/2) + (12/2 + 1)] /2 x ̃= (6 + 7) / 2 x ̃= 6.5 th value. WHERE IS 6.5 th VALUE ?

x ̃= [(12/2) + (12/2 + 1)] /2 x ̃= (6 + 7) / 2 x ̃= 6.5 th value. WHERE IS 6.5 th VALUE ? 2, 4, 6, 9, 9, 10 , 12 , 12, 13, 19, 21, 29 x ̃= (10 + 12)/ 2 x ̃= 11 THE MEDIAN IS 11 Get the average of the two numbers

HOW TO GET THE MEDIAN OF A DATA ? ARRANGE THE DATA IN ASCENDING ORDER 2. DETERMINE IF THE DATA IS ODD OR EVEN IN NUMBER 3. USE THE FORMULA AND SOLVE

2, 5, 5, 6, 8, 9 What have you observed in this set of data ? 5 IS CALLED THE MODE 11, 11, 12, 13,13,14, 15 11 AND 13 ARE THE MODES WHAT IS MODE ?

The mode is the most frequently occurring score in the ungrouped data.   There is no formula in finding the mode in an ungrouped data. We just have to look for the numbers who appear twice or more in the data.

4, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 15, 19, 2, 11, 11 WHAT IS THE MODE? 11 IS CALLED UNIMODAL SINCE THERE IS ONLY ONE MODE 1,0,5,2,3,11,9,8 WHAT IS THE MODE ? IN AN UNGROUPED DATA. WE CAN HAVE NO MODES

2, 3, 4, 1, 1, 7, 5, 6, 7 WHAT IS THE MODE? 1 AND 7 ARE THE MODES AND CALLED BIMODAL 1,0,0,2,2,1,9,8 WHAT IS THE MODE ? IF THERE ARE MORE THAN 2 MODES , IT IS CALLED MULTIMODAL

Let’s team up! 1 . group the students into 2. 2. Give each group an activity card with a problem. Show your solutions and answer on a manila paper. After that, choose a representative to discuss your answers. 3. 10 minutes to finish and report.

Questions: How’s the activity? Describe the level of difficulty. What are the problems you encountered during the activity? How did you solve those problems.

What are the three measures of central tendency?   What is a mean ? How do we calculate for the mean of ungrouped data ? What are the important/salient points to consider in finding the median of ungrouped data ? What is the mode?

state some examples of mean, median and mode in your daily life.

ASSIGNMENT The scores of 20 students in a English Spelling Bee are as follows: 20 30 32 42 31 27 28 35 39 43 45 38 29 29 25 38 32 37 44 45   Find the mean, median and mode of the scores.
