What is Critical thinking?

this is not Critical thinking!

What is Critical thinking? Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action ( Scriven and Paul, 1987)

Critical thinking is thinking about your thinking while you're thinking in order to make your thinking better (Paul, 1992) What is Critical thinking?

Why is critical thinking very important?

The ability to recognize fallacies of thinking is one of the fundamentals of critical thinking.

Give an example of this fallacy of thinking.

example Example: “Don’t listen to her opinion on health; she’s not even fit!”

Give an example of this fallacy of thinking.

Example: “You say we should be careful with spending. So you just want us to stop buying anything at all!”

Give an example of this fallacy of thinking.

“Have you stopped cheating on exams?”– If you say yes, you admit you used to cheat.– If you say no, you admit you still cheat.

Give an example of this fallacy of thinking.

“Reading is important because it is essential.”– It doesn’t explain WHY it is essential, it just repeats itself.

Give an example of this fallacy of thinking.

You’re either a good student or a total failure.”– In reality, you can be somewhere in between.

Give an example of this fallacy of thinking.

“If we allow students to use phones in class, soon no one will pay attention, grades will drop, and everyone will fail.”– It assumes a big disaster will follow from a small action.

Give an example of this fallacy of thinking.

“Ghosts exist. If you don’t believe me, prove that they don’t.”– It shifts the responsibility to the other side instead of providing evidence yourself.

Give an example of this fallacy of thinking.

Composition:“ Each player on this team is the best in their position, so the team will be the best.” –Just because parts are good doesn’t mean the whole is good. Division:“ The cake tastes great, so each ingredient must taste great by itself.” – Just because the whole is good doesn’t mean every part is.

Give an example of this fallacy of thinking.

Example: “Everyone uses this product, so it must be the best!”

Give an example of this fallacy of thinking.

Example: “You must agree with me because if not, you will hurt my feelings.”
