I n this lesson, you are going to learn the five most important tips for preparing and presenting confidently and effectively.

T his will ensure that you can be the go-to public speaker in your career.

#1 P lan, prepare, and practice

For most presentations, slides should be simple with minimal text.

This also depends on the goal of the presentation.

We’ll talk more about slides later in this lesson.

Questions to ask your audience If no one asks questions during Q and A time, it’s awkward . Say, “You may be thinking/asking yourself…”

#2 Look at your audience

Don’t read from papers or notes. You can glance at notes, but you should mostly be making eye contact with the audience.

The ideal presenter uses the slides as notes, glancing at them for reference, and mostly looks at the audience while talking.

#3 Be positive and energetic

Intonation and stress matter here! Audiences will not pay attention to a monotone speaker, no matter how interesting the information.

Speak loudly enough for everyone to hear, or use a microphone.

#4 Start with something entertaining.

Examples Tell a story or anecdote. Share a quote. Show and describe a captivating image or statistic.

#5 Use confident body language.

People judge others on their body language. You can also influence yourself with confident body language .

Pay attention to how the speakers introduce their presentation. Notice what they put on the slides.
