ME5113 INDUSTRIAL TRAINING / INTERNSHIP Presented by KAVIN A Reg. No: 2022111301 B.E (MECHANICAL ENGINEERING) College of engineering Guindy, Anna university Went To; NLC INDIA LIMITED (‘NAVRATNA’- A GOVERNMENT OF INDIAN ENTERPRISE) NEYVELI, TAMIL NADU Mentor: S hri . CONTENTS INTRODUCTION OF THE INDUSTRY MINES & THERMAL POWER STATIONS INTRODUCTION TO SME OVERHAUL TYPES OF SMEs ABOUT MY STUDY FIELD WORK STUDY
NLC INDIA LIMITED (‘NAVRATNA’- A GOVERNMENT OF INDIAN ENTERPRISE) NEYVELI, TAMIL NADU In Mine – 1 t he lignite seam was first exposed in August 1961 and regular mining of lignite commenced in May 1962. German excavation technology in open cast mining, using Bucket Wheel Excavators, Conveyors and Spreaders were used for the first time in the country in Neyveli Mine . The capacity of this mine was 6.5 MT which met the fuel requirement of TS P -I. The capacity was increased to 10.5MT of lignite per annum from March 2003 under Mine-I expansion scheme and at present meets the fuel requirement for generating power from TPS-I MINE- 1 MINE
THERMAL POWER PLANT Thermal Power Station-I has been expanded (2 x 210 MW) using the lignite available from Mine-1 Expansion . The scheme, TPS I Expansion, was sanctioned by 8 Government of India in February 1996 Unit-I was synchronized in October 2002 and Unit-Il in July 2003 . The power generated from this Thermal Power Station , after meeting the internal requirements, is shared by the Southern States viz., Tamil Nadu, Kerala , Karnataka, and Union Territory of Pondicherry.
MINES & TPS UNITS
INTRODUCTION TO SME OVERHAUL In Mine-1 SME zone plays a vital role in Maintenance of Machineries different aspects, li ke regular maintenance, Major Breakdown Maintenance , Reconditioning of Spares and Overhauling of Machines. In a SME OVERHAUL Division, they are working majorly on Overhauling of the Machines, and other works like reconditing of non -drive spares. The spares like return wheel, return drum, main swing and sub swing , roller (small boogie and large boogie), rotary plate, ring chute, Slew bearings, bucket wheel etc…, will be reconditioning on regu lar
BUCKET WHEEL EXCAVATOR A Bucket wheel excavator (BWE) is a large heavy SME equipment machine used in surface mining . The primary function of BWEs is to act as a continuous digging machine in large-scale open pit mining operations, removing thousands of tons of overburden a day. It is used in open cast mines, in India the BWE is used in neyveli lignite corporation Tamil Nadu . It has a rotating wheel with buckets attached to its rim. As the wheel spins, the buckets scoop up material (like soil or coal) from the ground . Then material is transferred to a conveyor belt.
MOBILE TRANSFER CONVEYOR A mobile transfer conveyor (MTC) plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and flexibility of mining operations . Unlike fixed conveyors, which are stationary and have limited reach, mobile transfer conveyors can be easily moved to different positions as needed This capability allows mining companies to adapt quickly to changing operational needs, whether it's redirecting material flow, reconfiguring mining sequences, or optimizing the use of available space. Moreover, mobile transfer conveyors contribute significantly to cost-effectiveness by reducing the requirement for multiple fixed conveyor systems. They streamline material handling processes, minimizing downtime associated with manual loading and unloading . This efficiency not only improves productivity but also enhances overall safety by reducing the need for personnel to work in potentially hazardous environments.
SPREADER Spreaders are mobile SMEs that operate at the end of a mining system and continuously dump or spread the material received from the cutting side of mines and can be shifted via a tripper conveyor or from mobile transfer conveyor. A spreader in SMEs refers to a large-scale machine crucial in surface mining operations for efficiently distributing overburden material. These machines play a pivotal role in the mining process by evenly depositing overburden onto designated spoil banks, which facilitates access to underlying mineral deposits. Spreaders are designed to handle large volumes of material using conveyor systems or similar mechanisms that extend over the mining area
S T A C KE R In mining operations, a stacker is a large machine used to stack bulk materials such as ores, coal, and other minerals in stockpiles. Stackers significantly enhance material handling efficiency by automating the stacking process, reducing the need for manual labor, and optimizing space utilization. They come in various types, including radial stackers, fixed stackers, and telescopic stackers, each designed for specific stacking needs. These machines can handle large volumes of materials, creating organized and high-capacity stockpiles that facilitate easy retrieval and management. Modern stackers often feature automation and control systems, improving precision, reducing errors, and enhancing safety. Despite their exposure to constant wear and tear, which necessitates regular maintenance, stackers are indispensable in the mining industry due to their ability to streamline operations, lower labor costs, and boost overall productivity.
RECLAIMER In mining operation, a reclaimer is a crucial piece of machinery used to retrieve bulk materials such as ores, coal, and other minerals from stockpiles. Reclaimers come in various types, including bucket wheel reclaimers, scarper reclaimer, and stacker reclaimer, each suited to specific material handling needs. These machines ensure efficient and continuous transport of mined materials to processing plants, optimizing the overall workflow. Modern reclaimers often feature automation system, enhancing precision and operational efficiency. They are designed to handle large volumes of materials, making them essential for high-output mining operation.
