Question 1 What do 1 Corinthians 11:1, Philippians 3:17, 1 Thessalonians 1:6, and 1 Corinthians 4:16 have in common?
Life-to-Life Discipleship refers to: • Two or more people in an intentional, purposeful learning experience where each is committed to Christian living. • The relational dynamic between people that enables the transfer of knowledge, heart, vision, and skill to become mature and wholehearted followers of Christ.
Question 2 Why is following a human example helpful? Why not just follow the example of Christ?
Question 3 What have you learned about following Christ simply by following the example of others?
Question 4 Why is following an example more powerful than listening to a sermon or reading a book?
Question 5 How did Jesus disciple his men? Why did he not just teach them by lecture? Why did he spend so much time with them?
Jesus had no formal school, seminary, or curriculum for his followers. All he did was draw them close to himself. He was his own school and curriculum.
By contrast, t he scribes taught using formal procedures. They required their disciples to adhere strictly to their teachings and traditions.
Jesus asked only that his disciples follow him. They were distinguished not by outward conformity but by being with him.
Question 6 How does Jesus’ method of making disciples relate to our lives as disciples?
Jesus replied, “I tell you the solemn truth, unless a person is born from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3, NET

Question 7 How does Jesus’ method of making disciples relate to our lives as disciple-makers?
For you may have countless instructors in Christ, but you don’t have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. 1 Corinthians 4:15, CSB
You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others. 2 Timothy 2:2, NLT

The “Ten Commandments” of Mentoring I. You shall not put your disciple above your relationship with God. II. You shall not “play God” in your disciple’s life.
III. You shall not point your disciple to anything but Scripture for all teaching. IV. You shall not fail to meet regularly with your disciple.
V. You shall not play “mother” or “father” in your disciple’s life. VI. You shall not kill or discourage the spirit of your disciple.
VII. You shall not neglect your personal family or work. VIII. You shall not steal your disciple’s affections.
IX. You shall not fail to be truthful with your disciple. X. You shall not envy the success of your disciple.
