Virtual University A virtual university is an online learning institution that uses the Internet to deliver classes and seminars. Students can earn a certificate or degree if they have a computer system that meets the technological requirements of that particular virtual university
A virtual University provides higher education programs through electronic media, typically the internet. The goal of Virtual Universities is to provide access to the part of the population who would not be able to attend a physical campus for following reasons such as • Distance – in which students live too far from a Physical campus to attend regular classes. • Flexibility – some students need the flexibility to study at home whenever it is convenient for them to do so.
Categories of Virtual Universities • Some University are functional fully virtually means all the courses run through online. • Some Universities are offer general courses in conventional mode but some courses run through online mode.
Objective a Teaching mode The idea of a virtual university as an institution that used computers and telecommunications instead of buildings and transport to bring students and teachers together for university courses. Providing access to higher education for all students, especially adult learners, is made easier by the fact that most virtual universities have no entry requirements for their undergraduate courses. Entry requirements are needed for the courses that are aimed at postgraduates or those who work in specific jobs. Studying in a virtual university has essential differences from studying in a brick and mortar university. There are no buildings and no campus to go to because students receive learning materials over the Internet. In most cases, only a personal computer and an Internet connection is needed. Course materials can include printed material, books, audio and video cassettes, TV programmes , CD-ROM/software, and web sites. Support is offered to learners from the professor or a tutor online through e-mails if they are having problems with the course.
On-demand learning: "Instruction is available when and where the learner needs it. Eliminating the need to wait for, or travel to, and a scheduled class. ■ In addition, distance learning increases access to learning for the disabled. Learner controlled: Each learner is able to review topics or to skip the information they already know. Increased motivation: Students frequently report that they find technology-based interactive learning more interesting and enjoyable than classroom lectures. Increased achievement: When corrective feedback or a learning strategy designed to help students achieve mastery in a certain area is provided. Students often show better test results, retention, or job performance from technology- based interactive learning. Reduced learning time: Typically 30-40 percent less time is required for learning to be achieved compared to classroom instruction . Why Virtual Universities ?
Need of Virtual Universities Distance learning is offline mode faced some limitations such as lack of social interaction and lack of immediate feedback. Distance learning with online is provided the same environment spaces and experiences of real classroom. The need of social interaction and peer collaboration brought this concept in existence. Universities provided distance education through online mode are known as Virtual Universitiy .
To set up international virtual universities has been put on the schedule of more and more governments and social organizations . No-boundary higher education, with strong mobility of its courses, low education costs and open learning style, has been gaining popularity. Conclusion
