Rights of p arents/guardians Parents and guardians have the right to open communication with teachers regarding their child’s progress and needs . Parents and guardians have the responsibility to contact teachers if there are issues or concerns regarding their child’s progress e.g. Learning Support and Counselling . Parents and guardians have the right to participate in changes to their child’s education including being informed about formal assessments and the support their child is receiving .

Rights of parents/guardians Parents and guardians have the responsibility to utilize the school support services, such as the Learning space and counselling services, as needed to provide the best education available for their child . Parents and guardians have the right to formalize feedback in the form of written reports and Teacher Led or 3 way Conferences throughout the school year . Parents and guardians have the responsibility to raise questions and concerns with teachers at an appropriate time and in an appropriate manner.

Tips for Productive PTM Flexible meeting schedule Prepare, prepare, prepare. (test results, worksheets) Be aware of your body language. Sit side by side. Share real stories and students work. Include the positive. Avoid education jargons (slang). Give some responsibilities to parents. Encourage questions. Don’t make assumptions about parents or students. If a parent become hostile don’t engage. Remain professional throughout. Stay in contact with parents.
