3. Definition Social Norms – Social norms are set of values that regulates the behaviour of members of society. These are the standards of group behaviour that regulate the conduct of individuals. They are based on social values. Norms limits the behaviour pattern of members.

4. Continued……….. These are the consequential standards derived from socio-cultural model that guides the day-to-day behaviour of members and reflected in collective actions of a group. A social norm is the accepted behavior that an individual is expected to conform to in a particular group, community, or culture (Study.com). Norms are stress busters in unexpected events or situations.

5. They define right and acceptable group behaviour in specific situations and play pivotal role in social order and social coordination ( plato.stanford.edu ). Social norms are always backed by social sanctions or certain penalties. According to Bicchieri (2006) social norms ought to be understood as a kind of grammar of social interactions. In fact they are the unplanned & unexpected results of social interactions. Norms are efficient means to achieve social welfare or cut social costs  (Stanford Encyclopedia Philosophy) . 

6. परिभाषा सामाजिक मानक - सामाजिक मानक उन मूल्यों का संग्रह होते हैं जो समाज के सदस्यों के व्यवहार को नियंत्रित करते हैं। ये व्यवहार के वो मानक होते हैं जो व्यक्तियों के आचरण को नियंत्रित करते हैं। सामाजिक मानक सामाजिक मूल्यों पर आधारित होते हैं। ये सदस्यों के व्यवहार के स्वरूप को परिसीमित करते हैं।

7. ये सामाजिक-सांस्कृतिक मॉडल से व्युत्पन्न होते हैं जो सदस्यों के दिन-प्रतिदिन व्यवहार के पथप्रदर्शक के रूप में कार्य करते हैं और समूह के सामूहिक कार्यों में परिलक्षित होते हैं। सामाजिक मानक ऐसे स्वीकार्य व्यवहार होते हैं जो किसी व्यक्ति को किसी विशेष समूह, समुदाय या संस्कृति का सदस्य होने के नाते करने की उम्मीद की जाती है ( Study.com) । मानदंड अप्रत्याशित घटनाओं या स्थितियों से उत्पन्न तनाव को समाप्त करने वाले होते हैं ।

8. वे विशिष्ट परिस्थितियों में सही और स्वीकार्य समूह - व्यवहार को परिभाषित करते हैं और सामाजिक व्यवस्था और सामाजिक समन्वय ( plato.stanford.edu) में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाते हैं। Bicchieri (2006) के अनुसार सामाजिक मानको को सामाजिक अंतःक्रिया के व्याकरण के रूप में समझा जाना चाहिए। वास्तव में वे सामाजिक अंतःक्रिया के अनियोजित एवं अप्रत्याशित परिणाम होते हैं। मानक , सामाजिक कल्याण को बढ़ावा देने तथा सामाजिक लागत में कटौती करने के लिए प्रभावी साधन माने जाते हैं (स्टैनफोर्ड विश्वकोष दर्शनशास्त्र) ।

9. Characteristics of Norms Social norms are specified behavioural patterns consisting of certain humane components such as morality, ethics, orderliness and social management which people feel compelled to subscribe to because they appear to be appropriate, moral or ethical.

10. मानकों की विशेषताएँ सामाजिक मानक कुछ विशिष्ट व्यवहार पैटर्न होते हैं जिनमे आचार - विचार, नैतिकता, व्यवस्था और सामाजिक प्रबंधन जैसे कुछ मानवीय घटक पाए जाते हैं। लोग इनके अनुपालन की जरुरत महसूस करते हैं क्योंकि ये उपयुक्त एवं नैतिक दिखाई पड़ते हैं।

11. 1. Social Norms are found worldwide or universal. 2. Remain stable over time and act as solid foundation for social behaviour. 3. Norms incorporate value judgments. Through norms the actions are judged for rightness or wrongness. 4. Act as rule of thumb for behaviour and provide order in society.

12. 1. सामाजिक मानक सार्वभौमिक होते हैं। 2. समय के साथ स्थिर रहते हैं और सामाजिक व्यवहार को ठोस नींव प्रदान करते हैं। 3. सामाजिक मानकों से मूल्यों का मूल्यांकन किया जाता है। मानकों के माध्यम से व्यवहार के बारे में सही या गलत का निर्णय लिया जाता है। 4. व्यवहार के लिए मानक अनुभवसिद्ध रीति या नियम के रूप में कार्य करते हैं और समाज को एक व्यवस्था प्रदान करते हैं।

Instrumental in social control, and effective in socialization. 8. Norms are relative to situations and groups. Norms vary from various perspectives such as age, gender, group, social status, marital status etc.

14. 5. ये सामाजिक प्रभाव और अनुरूपता को समझने की कुंजी होते हैं। 6. सामाजिक संबंधों में पूर्वानुमान लगाने में प्रभावी पाये जाते हैं और अन्योन्य अंतः क्रिया को समझने में मदद करते हैं। 7. सामाजिक नियंत्रण में सहायक और सामाजिककरण में प्रभावी होते हैं। 8. मानक परिस्थितियों और समूहों के सापेक्षिक होते हैं अर्थात मानक विभिन्न परिप्रेक्ष्य जैसे आयु, लिंग, समूह, सामाजिक स्थिति, वैवाहिक स्थिति इत्यादि में भिन्न - भिन्न होते हैं।

15. 9. Norms may not be practiced by all members of the group at all time. For example during crowd behaviour or during certain political events people fail to adhere to norms 10. Deviance from social norms does not warrant punishment but leads to sanctions. Because norms and sanctions go hand in hand. Sanctions are special ways to deal with violation of norms.

16. 9. मानक समूह के सभी सदस्यों के लिए हर समय व्यावहारिक नहीं हो सकते। उदाहरण के लिए भीड़ की स्थिति में या कुछ राजनीतिक घटनाओं के दौरान व्यक्ति मानकों का उल्लंघन करने से नहीं चूकते हैं। 10. सामाजिक मानकों का उल्लंघन करने की स्थिति में दंड का प्रावधान नहीं होता है लेकिन सामाजिक प्रतिबंध लगाए जा सकते हैं। क्योंकि मानक और प्रतिबंध साथ - साथ चलते हैं। मानकों के उल्लंघन से निपटने के लिए ‘ प्रतिबंध ’ विशेष तरीके होते हैं।

17. 11. Norms are internalized by the people. Generally people follow the norms without questioning them. 12. Norms can be imported or exported between groups. 13. Usually the norms are difficult to change. 14. Norms are related to the factual order, i.e. they are related and based on real time behaviour.

18. 11. लोग मानकों को आत्मसात करते हैं और आमतौर पर बिना संदेह या सवाल किये उनका पालन करते हैं। 12. मानकों को विभिन समूहों के बीच अदला - बदला भी जाता है। 13. आमतौर पर मानकों को बदलना मुश्किल होता है। 14. मानक तथ्यात्मक - आदेश से संबंधित होते हैं, यानी ये वास्तविक समय के व्यवहार से संबंधित एवं उस पर आधारित होते हैं।
