SOIL POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION LESSON 3
LEARNING COMPETENCIES DESCRIBE THE EFFECTS OF SOIL POLLUTION. CITE WAYS TO CONSERVE SOIL.
SOIL POLLUTION SOIL POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION Is the result of the production or addition of unwanted materials and substances to soil. This affects the health of plants, animals, and people.
SOIL POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION Farmers use fertilizers and pesticides to grow more crops to protects them from pests like insects and rats. However, too much use of fertilizers and pesticides also pollute the soil and deplete the nutrients that plants get from it.
SOIL POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION Excess fertilizers are washed away into rivers and lakes, polluting the bodies of water as well. Improper garbage disposal pollutes the soil. It makes the environment dirty and ugly.
SOIL POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION Cockroaches, flies and rats thrive or live in dirty places. These organisms carry diseases that may affect the health of the people.
SOIL POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION Humans found a way to mine and use different metals from the ground. Processing the metal to become useful produces mine tailings that pollute the land water.
SOIL POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION Humans activities like illegal logging and kaingin system pollute the soil. Cutting down trees make the soil vulnerable to soil erosion and flash floods.
SOIL CONSERVATION SOIL POLLUTION AND CONSERVATION Is the act of keeping the soil healthy and in place. The is a response that could address the problem on soil pollution.
SOIL CONSERVATION Garbage is a major pollutant in our environment. It may include corrosive, flammable, reactive and toxic chemicals that contaminate the soil.
SOIL CONSERVATION Improper garbage disposal reduces soil fertility. Nonbiodegradable materials may produce chemicals get into the soil and into the roots of plants. Plants that are contaminated by these chemicals are risky to humans
WAYS TO PREVENT SOIL POLLUTION Observe the 3Rs- Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Reduce the amount of items or resources you consume. Buy and use materials that are only needed. Reuse old materials. Recycle waste material into new, useful products.
WAYS TO PREVENT SOIL POLLUTION Plant More Trees- Join tree planting activities. Segregate waste properly- Separate biodegradable from nonbiodegradable materials. Be Pro-Environment- Join or support campaigns that promote environmental awareness.
