The research report will have, broadly, three parts. Part I : The Preliminary Pages Part II : The Main Text of the Research Report Part III : The End Matter
The preliminary pages of the research report should have the following main constituents . • Title and cover page • A foreword • Preface • Acknowledgements • Table of contents • List of tables • List of figures • List of appendices • List of abbreviations • Executive Summary
1. Planning and Preparation Choose a topic: Select a clear topic or research question for your study. Develop a thesis statement: Create a central argument or purpose for your research. Create an outline: Structure your report logically before you begin writing
2. Conducting the Research Gather information: Conduct research and experiments to collect data relevant to your topic. Analyze data: Analyze the collected data to identify findings and patterns .
3. Writing the Report Write a rough draft: Write a first draft that documents your research process and findings. Write the main sections: Present your purpose, methods, results, and conclusions clearly and with evidence. Prepare the final bibliography: List all the sources you consulted in a consistent format.
4. Revising and Finalizing Rewrite and polish: Revise the rough draft to improve logical flow, clarity, grammar, and spelling. Proofread: Carefully check the final draft for any remaining mistakes before submitting it.
