AI in Literature Review: Enhancing Research Efficiency and Accuracy Ph. D. Coursework Presentation Paper: 1 Research Methodology Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University Prepared by: Jheel Barad Research Scholar Department of English M.K. Bhavnagar University 24/08/2024

Steps of research Identification of research problem Literature review Specifying the purpose of research Determining specific research questions Specification of a conceptual framework, sometimes including a set of hypotheses Choice of a methodology (for data collection) Data collection Verifying data Analyzing and interpreting the data Reporting and evaluating research Communicating the research findings and, possibly, recommendations (Creswell)

Literature Review ‘A literature review is the process of selecting and evaluating documents that contain information, ideas, data, and evidence about a topic. The goal is to express viewpoints on the topic and how it should be investigated. The form, function, and outcomes of a literature review vary depending on the research question, the academic discipline, and the research community’(Hart). ‘A literature review is a written summary of journal articles, books, and other documents that describes the current and past state of information. It organizes the literature into topics and documents a need for a proposed study’ (Creswell). Traditional Literature Review Process: Time-consuming and manual Prone to human error Difficulty in managing large datasets

Usefulness of LR ‘...reviews are useful when the researcher wants to evaluate theory or evidence in a certain area or to examine the validity or accuracy of a certain theory or competing theories’ (Tranfield et al.). ‘Literature reviews can also be useful if the aim is to engage in theory development’ (Baumeister and Leary). A literature review is a summary of existing research on a particular topic. It's typically done at the beginning of a research project, and it's used to provide context and background information on the research field. The goal of a literature review is to identify gaps in the existing research and to provide a foundation for your own research. ( What Is A Literature Review? )

Artificial Intelligence The term Artificial Intelligence was first coined in 1956 by McCarthy, which he referred to as “the science and engineering of making intelligent machines” (Roberts). Efficiency: AI processes large volumes of data quickly Reduces the time required to complete a literature review Accuracy: AI algorithms can identify relevant sources with high precision Minimizes the risk of missing critical literature Automation : Automates repetitive tasks such as data extraction, categorization, and summarization

Various AI Tools Literature Discovery and Exploration Research Rabbit Function: Assists in discovering and visualizing connections between academic papers, authors, and research topics. Use Case: Facilitates comprehensive literature reviews by mapping out related works and identifying influential studies. Connected Papers Function: Creates visual graphs that show the relationships and citations between research papers. Use Case: Helps researchers understand the evolution of a topic and identify key papers in a field. Elicit Function: An AI-powered research assistant that helps in finding relevant literature and summarizing key findings. Use Case: Streamlines the literature search process by providing tailored recommendations based on research questions.
