Early life and theatrical career His mother taught him to read and write. Sometime between 1585 and 1592 he Begin a successful career in London as an actor writer and part honour of the company Lord chamberlain’s men later known as the king men.
Plays, sonnets and poetry.
Idea of the poem Shakespeare describe seven stages of human-life. He describe short lifespan of humans. Man and woman are just actors. They perform 7 different life roles. Stages lies from infancy to 2 ND childhood. Then the man leaves the stage.
Theme of the title He says world is a stage for all the human beings in which they play their roles. 2 sonnet and contains 14 lines. monologue taken from “As you like it”. Idea behind phrase is fortune , fate.
Seven stages
Stage 1. Infancy
Stage 2. School going boy Unwilling to go to school. Complaints all the time and reluctant. Takes his school bag and sling it. His face is washed and cleaned. looks fresh, healthy in the morning. Walks to school like a snail.
Stage 3. Lover
Stage 4: Soldier
Stage 5: Wise Justice Now he became middle aged man. He became mature like a judge. He has a fair round belly. He is firm, serious and grim. His conversations is full of proverbs. He has beard of formal cut.
Stage 6: Old man
Stage 7: Second childhood Life with strange events come to end. The man become child once again. He is childish as-well as childlike. Now he forgets almost everything. His memory also become very weak. He lose teeth, eye-sight and taste.
Literacy devices & Themes Here Shakespeare use many literacy devices. “Creeping like snail”, “Bearded like pard.” Inversion: His acts being seven ages Poem itself is example of metaphor. Repetition: worlds like sans, world, age. Themes: Time, get-older, Memory, Life purpose.
