Analyzing Gender Diversity Trends in
MCom Colleges in Mumbai
Abstract
This study examines gender diversity trends in MCom colleges in Mumbai over three academic
years from 2020 to 2023. Enrollment data reveal a nearly balanced gender distribution with a
slight male majority. The research analyzes implications for gender parity and educational
policy, aiming to support inclusive postgraduate commerce education in Mumbai.
Introduction
Gender diversity in postgraduate commerce education is critical for empowering women and
promoting equity in higher education. This study focuses on MCom colleges in Mumbai,
exploring enrollment patterns from 2020-2023. The research question addresses how gender
representation has evolved and its broader impacts. The study's objectives include identifying
trends and informing policy for sustained gender inclusivity.
Literature Review
Existing literature highlights gradual progress in gender parity in Indian higher education, with
regional variations. While male students have traditionally dominated commerce postgraduate

limited focused data analysis for Mumbai’s MCom programs, a gap this research addresses.

The near parity in gender enrollment suggests positive steps toward educational equity. The
slight male majority in recent years warrants attention for targeted interventions. The findings
reinforce the necessity for policies encouraging female participation at the postgraduate level in
commerce.
