Analyzing the Methods of Philosophy That Lead To Wisdom and Truth

(For Double 1999), although philosophy is an organized body of knowledge, the subject matter of philosophy is questions.

Three Major of Characteristics

1. Philosophical questions have answers, but the answers remain in dispute.

2. Philosophical questions cannot be settled by science, common sense , or faith.

3. Philosophical question are of perennial intellectual interest to human beings.

These questions address fundamental aspects of the human experience, such as aspects of the human experience, such as existence . Morality , knowledge , and the nature of reality.

The methodology or method that philosophers use to address philosophical questions is critical thinking. Critical thinking is the careful, reflective, rational, and systematic approach to questions of very general interest. This involves questioning the assumptions, beliefs, basis of ideas, claims, and opinions.

Critical thinking means finding out the reason behind things and understanding the impact of that realization to one's life. Critical thinking also means understanding of philosophy and refraining from merely giving claims, but through careful thought, one reasons through argumentation.

( Maboloc and Pacua 2008) , critical thinking is a lifelong process of self assessment that further consists of:

defining, analyzing, and devising solution arriving at reasonable and informed conclusions applying understanding and knowledge to new and different willingness to change one’s point of view continually examining and reexamining ideas willingness to say “I don’t know”

To admit that one does not know is an honest appraisal of, for example, solving problem. Truth could be arrived at by willingness to change one’s point of vie based on new evidence and continuous reexamining of ideas. As a lifelong learning, critical thinking is a commitment to achieve better social conditions or broader participation in unfolding the future.

The attributes of critical thinker include the following

Looks for evidence to support assumption and beliefs. Adjust opinions. Looks for proof. Examines problem. Rejects irrelevant and incorrect Information.

Aristotle, courage is also required in developing practical wisdom or habit of exercising good judgement to choose effective means in achieving worthy goals. In art forms such as painting, music, and bullet, critical thinking pertains to enlightened sensitivity, an important feature appreciate expression.

If one concept one’s limits or has the courage to say “I don’t know,” then it becomes an honest appraisal of, say , solving a problem. Only of one is able to be willing to change one’s point of view based on arising evidence and continually reexamining ideas can a more holistic perspective of truth be arrived at.
