ANATOMY M NOUMAN

PLANES OF BODY

Median plane This is the vertical plane that cut body into right and left part. Coronal plane This is vertical side to side plane that is right angle to median plane.it is also called frontal plane. It cut the body into dorsal and ventral section. Transverse plane It is a horizontal plane that cut the body into upper and lower section.

TERMS OF POSITION

TERMS OF MOVEMENT

FLEXION AND EXTENSION Flexion refers to decreasing a joint angle . Extension to increasing the joint angle back to resting anatomical position.

ABDUCTION AND ADDUCTION Abduction is motion of a limb or appendage away from the midline of the body Adduction movement of a limb toward the median plane of the body.

SUPINATION AND PRONATION Supination is the rotation of the forearm and hand so that the palm faces forward or upward . Pronation is the rotation of the hand and forearm so that the palm faces backwards or downwards

INVERSION AND EVERSION Inversion is the movement of the sole towards the median plane . Eversion is the movement in which the foot rotates so the sole faces away from the midline of the body.

ELEVATION AND DEPRESSION Elevation is movement in a superior direction . Depression is the downward movement.

PROTRACTION AND RETRACTION Protraction is movement of a body part in the anterior direction, i.e. being drawn forwards . Retraction is the movement of a body part in the posterior direction, i.e. being drawn backwards

OPPOSITION AND REPOSITION Opposition is defined as positioning something near or close to each other. Reposition is the opposite action of opposition.

TERMS OF LATERALITY

UNILATERAL Any structure or organ occurring only one side of body. Example : spleen BILATERAL Those structure or organs present on both sides of body Example : ears a re bilateral organs IPSILATERAL This term refers to a structure occurring on same side of body as another structure. Example : right hand and right foot are ipsilateral CONTRALATERAL This term refers to a structure occurring on opposite side of body with reference to another structure. Example : right hand is contralateral to left hand
