Chemotherapy of Trematodes : Praziquantel
Chemotherapy of Cestodes : Niclosamide

3. DRUGS USED FOR THE TREATMENT OF
NEMATODES:
1. MEBENDAZOLE AND/OR
ALBENDAZOLE :
Pin worm (Enterobius vermicularis)
Hook worm (Nectar americanus)
Round worm (Ascariasis lumbricoides)
Whip worm (Trichuris trichuria)

4. NEMATODES :
PIN WORM HOOK WORM

5. ROUND WORM WHIP WORM

6. ADVERSE EFFECTS:

Diahorrea.

Abdominal pain.
CONTRA INDICATIONS:

In pregnant woman, because it
shown to be embryotoxic &
teratogenic in experimental animals.

7. 2. IVERMECTIN:

It is the drug of choice which
treats Onchoceriasis (river
blindness) caused by
Onchorea volvulus.

It is effective against scabies.

8. CONTRA INDICATIONS:

Patients with MENINGITIS

Pregnancy

9. SCABIES

10. Definition
Scabies is an intensified Pruritis skin
problem caused by the Sarcotes
scabiei hominis (Mite)

11. Typical Scabies

It causes itchy rash on hands and
wrists

It not affects scalp/ face

12. Nodular Scabies

Itchy, raised bumps/ lumps especially
in the genital areas, armpits/ groin

13. Crusted Scabies/ Norwegian
Scabies

More severe and extremely
contagious type of Scabies

People develop thick crusts of skin
that contain thousands of mites and
eggs

It develops in people with weak
immune system


Mite called Sarcoptes scabiei hominis

15. Clinical Presentation
Adults
Lesions at:

Flexor aspects of wrists

Dorsal feet

Axillae

Elbows

Waist

Buttocks

Genitalia

Pruritic papules,
vesicles on Scrotum,
Penis
Infants
Lesions at:

Face

Neck

Palms

Soles

16. Complications

Excoriations

Wide spread eczema

Honey coloured crusting

Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation

Erythroderma

Prurigo nodules

Frank pyoderma

17. Diagnosis

Clinical presentation

Microscopic examination of skin

18. Non Pharmacological
Treatment

Avoid sharing of clothes and towels

Use properly washed clothes

Apply soothing lotion like Calamine
