DID YOU EVER HAVE AMAZING EXPERIENCE…..???? DID YOU EVER FELL EXCITED IN THE PAST TIME?

Core Activities Watching the short videos about someone's experiences (e.g. holiday experiences) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ndhn8ttK4gE&t=28s "What did you notice in this story?“ "Apa yang Anda perhatikan dalam cerita ini?"

Vacation to London. I spent my last summer holiday in London, England. I went there with my family. ( ORIENTATION ) On the first day, we landed at Heathrow Airport around 7am after I6 hours flight. Then we went to the hotel we already booked. My father and my mother decided to take a rest for a while. On the next day, after lunch we went to London Eye. We experienced a beautiful view on one of the world's tallest Ferris wheels. You could take photos of amazing views from here. We also went to Big Ben. The best way to see Big Ben was to walk across Westminster Bridge and around to Parliament Square to get a glimpse of all sides of the clock. We spent our last day to buy some stuffs and souvenirs. I also ate the street food there. We went to the airport at 3pm because our flight was at 5pm. ( EVENT ) I had a fantastic experience in England and made wonderful memory with my family. It was my best vacation ( REORIENTATION )

Essential Material 1. Definition and Social of recount text 2. Generic structure 3. Linguistic features 4. Types of recount text

Definition and Social Function of recount text Recount text is a text that telling the reader about one story, action or activity in the past. The social function of Recount Text is to retell events for the purpose of informing or entertaining the reader. Its text that serves retell events or experiences that occurred in the past. That is mean, the events that are notified in the Recount Text occur before you write the text. For example events that took places last year, last month, or even yesterday. Well, the events that are retold in Recount Text can be experiences such as holidays, competitions, or birthdays. “Jadi Recount Text ini bercerita mengenai pengalaman atau kejadian yang dialami seseorang dimasa lalu.Kejadian tersebut diceritakan secara berurutan atau secara kronologis . Sedangkan fungsi dari Recount text untuk menceritakan kembali peristiwa yang bertujuan untuk menginformasikan atau menghibur pembaca ”.

Generic structure Recount Text consists of 3 parts, that are: Orientation Series of Events Reorientation.

Orientation This section is the opening part of the text or introduction that contains the background of an incident, such as who was involved, or when and where there the incident occurred. “Orientation ini menceritakan siapa saja yang terlibat dalam cerita , apa yang terjadi , dimana tempatnya peristiwa terjadi , dan kapam terjadi peristiwanya .”

Series of Events This section is part of the content of the text that contains a series of sequential events experienced by the author. “Event ini menceritakan tentang apa yang terjadi ( lagi ) dan menceritakan urutan ceritanya .” For example, if the Recount Text tells about the experience of the race, then the Series of Event section contains a series of events that were experienced sequentially, starting from the beginning of the preparation of the race until the end of the race. Misalnya , jika Teks Recount menceritakan tentang pengalaman lomba lari , maka bagian Rangkaian Peristiwa berisi tentang rangkaian peristiwa yang dialami secara berurutan , mulai dari awal persiapan lomba hingga akhir lomba .

Reorientation This section is the closing of the text which contains conclusions, massages, impressions, or feelings of the author on the events experienced. “Reorientation ini berisi penutup cerita / akhir cerita .” For example, the author tells about his experience in the competition and it turns out that he won 1 st place in the competition, then the author can tell how happy he was when he found out that he had won 1 st place.

Linguistic features Using Simple Past Tense Why must Simple Past Tense? Kenapa harus Simple Past Tense ? Because the events being told are events that happened in the past, so we have to use a tense that serves to express events that happened in the past, that is Simple Past Tense. “Recount Text ini menceritakan kejadian dimasa lampau sehingga recount text harus menggunakan tense yang berfungsi untuk mengungkapkan kejadian di masa lampau yakni Simple Past Tense”.

Using Adverb of Time and Adverb of Sequence

Using Conjunctions and chronological connectors Conjunctions are words that link other words, phrases, or clauses together. There are: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, after, although, as, as if, as long as, as much as, as soon as, as though, because, before, by the time, even if, even though, if, in order that, in case, in the event that, lest, now that, once, only, only if, provided that, since, so, supposing, that, than, though, till, unless, until, when, whenever, where, whereas, wherever, whether or not, while, both/and, either/or, neither/nor, not only/but, whether/or.

Types Recount Text Here are the types of recount text that you need to know. 1. Personal Recount This type of text is used to retell an event experienced by one person. This paper will tell in detail what was done and what events were experienced. “ Jenis teks ini digunakan untuk menceritakan kembali suatu peristiwa yang dialami oleh satu orang. Tulisan ini akan menceritakan secara rinci apa yang dilakukan dan peristiwa apa yang dialami .” 2. Factual Recount This type of recount text also tells about events or events in the past. The events narrated were experienced by other people. Even so, it is certain that this event actually happened. “ Jenis teks recount ini juga menceritakan tentang peristiwa atau kejadian di masa lalu . Peristiwa yang diceritakan dialami oleh orang lain. Meskipun demikian , dapat dipastikan bahwa peristiwa tersebut benar-benar terjadi ”. 3. Imaginative Recount This type of text tells of an event in the past that didn't actually happen or was just an imagination. This type of text is also written in a coherent way, but there is no emphasis on who the actors or characters are in the story. “ Jenis teks ini menceritakan suatu peristiwa di masa lalu yang sebenarnya tidak terjadi atau hanya imajinasi . Jenis teks ini juga ditulis secara koheren ( dengan cara yang jelas dan terhubung secara logis , konsisten , dapat dipahami ; dengan cara yang masuk akal ), tetapi tidak menekankan siapa pelaku atau karakter dalam cerita tersebut ”.

For Example of Personal Recount A Trip to Bali: "Last summer, I went to Bali with my family. We stayed in a beautiful villa near the beach. The first few days were spent relaxing and swimming in the ocean. Then, we went on a day trip to Ubud , where we visited a rice terrace and a monkey forest. The highlight of the trip was learning how to surf. It was challenging at first, but after a few tries, I was able to stand up on the board. I had such a great time and I'll never forget the experience."

For Example of Factual Recount "A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck the city of Dauh Puri Klod , Denpasar, at 2:17 PM local time on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. The earthquake lasted for approximately 15 seconds and caused minor damage to some buildings. No injuries or fatalities have been reported. Emergency services are currently assessing the extent of the damage."

For Example of Imaginative Recount A school field trip to a historical site The year is 1888. The air is thick with the smell of coal smoke, and the cobblestone streets of London are crowded with people and horse-drawn carriages. A group of school children, including myself, are on a field trip to the Tower of London, led by a stern-faced teacher. We walk through the gates, and the cold, damp air inside the fortress sends a shiver down my spine. Our teacher tells us about the prisoners held here, their stories echoing in the stone walls. Suddenly, I see a flicker of movement in the shadows. It's a ghostly figure, pale and transparent, gliding along the battlements. I gasp, and my friend nudges me, asking what's wrong. I whisper, "I saw a ghost!" He laughs, telling me it's just my imagination. But I know what I saw. Later, while exploring the armory, I touch a rusty sword. A vision flashes before my eyes: a knight in shining armor, battling an unseen foe. I stumble back, startled, and drop the sword. My teacher scolds me for being clumsy. I try to explain what I saw, but she just sighs and tells me to pay attention. As we leave the Tower, I glance back. The ghostly figure is still there, watching us go. Back on the bus, I can't shake the feeling that I've witnessed something extraordinary. The field trip was supposed to be about history, but it became a journey into the supernatural. I'll never look at the Tower of London the same way again.
