Mediocrity in research and a lack of research culture in India are considered among major factors behind low standing of Indian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the global university ranking systems. India ranks ninth in research citation despite producing double the global average in research output. “This shows that a lot of research being done is not as impactful and relevant as it is expected to be. It is a matter of concern as the purpose of research is to contribute to the existing pool of knowledge and benefit the society at large,” Tripti Toor, associate professor, IILM University, said. Experts believe that the low citation rate of Indian research papers is mainly due to the lack of research skills and competencies. Experts Opinion Designed & Developed by M.U. Ansari | Contact: [email protected]

Furthermore, despite an increase in the number of women in STEM education, there is still a significant gender gap in research and innovation careers. “Unconscious biases in hiring and promotion can result in women being overlooked for research and innovation careers, even if they are equally qualified or more qualified than male candidates. Their familial responsibilities become a hindering factor while balancing demands of a research or innovation career,” Daviender Narang, Director, Jaipuria Institute of Management, explained. Cont... Many published research works from India lack originality besides the rigour required for a scholarly paper to be cited by the academia. Institutional rankings have further encouraged a culture where analysis is assessed in numbers rather than on qualitative indicators of creativity and inventiveness,” Kokil Jain, dean of research and EFPM program chair, Fortune Institute of International Business, explained. To address these challenges, experts opined that India needs to invest more in research infrastructure, provide better training to researchers , encourage more international collaborations, and increase funding for research. “Additionally, researchers need to focus on producing high-quality research with global significance and publish in international journals to increase their visibility and impact,” Narag added. The continual switching between various search and browsing modes is one of the difficulties of conducting a literature study. You might come across some relevant papers while keyword searching, browsing Wikipedia, or attending a conference. This may prompt you to look at the references or citations in that paper, which may prompt you to identify some interesting authors and decide to read their works. This may prompt you to continue citation mining, and before you know it, Unlocking the Literary Maze: Unraveling LR Challenges! you might find yourself lost. Designed & Developed by M.U. What if there was a programme that made accomplishing all of this simple and, as a bonus, gave you rapid visuals to assist you choose which path to take when exploring the "wilderness" of literature? Cont... A new literature mapping tool - ResearchRabbit aims to do this. As each pertinent paper you find offers up new directions to examine and the possibilities appear limitless, it frequently feels like you are falling down the rabbit hole. Designed & Developed by M.U. Ansari | Contact: [email protected]

ResearchRabbit What is ResearchRabbit? ResearchRabbit is an innovative “citation-based literature mapping tool” available online. The scope of such tool is to optimise your time searching for references as you start planning your essay, minor project, or literature review. The concept is simple: you start by using one or more papers (called seed papers), and the app will find more papers relevant to the topic of interest (which is dictated by the seed papers you previously selected). The tool is designed to support your research without you switching between searching modes and databases, a process that is time consuming and often escalates into further citation mining; a truly unpleasant rabbit hole (and that’s what inspired the name ResearchRabbit)! Designed & Developed by M.U. Ansari | Contact: [email protected]

“It’s like a second brain to do literature review! It does half the work for you… and makes life a lot easier!” Scholars Feedback “I loved the naturalness of discovery, I don’t feel siloed by my search terms… much more organic searching…” “I really love… the ability to track how I got to where I’m at…” “This could literally change how we do literature search and review.” Designed & Developed by M.U. Ansari | Contact: [email protected]

AI's role in connecting references and citations through a chosen Research Paper (S)... Say we pick one paper i.e "A survey of digital information literacy (DIL) among academic library and information professionals" clicking on it gives us options including “All References” (show all papers that reference selected paper) “These Authors” (show all authors of selected paper) “All citations” (show all papers that cite selected paper) “Similar Work” (show “similar papers” to selected paper that you might be interested in) 6 “Suggested Authors”(show suggested authors that you might be interested in) Designed & Developed by M.U. Ansari | Contact: [email protected]

Looking for a Potential Paper (S) Consider that we wish to search references with the title "A survey of digital information literacy (DIL) among academic library and information professionals" to find potential publications to add to our collection. A new column called "All Citations" will appear after clicking "All citations," which will produce 15 papers that Research Rabbit is aware of and which are cited by that study. 7 Designed & Developed by M.U. Ansari | Contact: [email protected]

A visualisation graph is also provided, with each paper represented as a node, and the ties between them serving as citations. What's more, documents that are already in your collection are highlighted in green, while those that aren't are highlighted in blue. This makes it easier for you to understand how the papers you are evaluating now relate to others in your collection. You can add any of the papers displayed in this new column to your collection or click on them and choose "To this collection" if they catch your attention. Repeat this process from here, choose one of these papers, and then click "All references" to get still another column of papers that are references of that paper and dig even further. Inciteful: Help you to accelerate your research The goal of Inciteful is to give the world free tools to help accelerate academic research. If that means getting up to speed on a new topic, finding the latest literature, or figuring out how two ideas are connected, we can help. Unlike a traditional search engine, citations are the cornerstone of all of our tools. Building these tools for all academic literature has only recently been possible with the rise of open scholarly bibliographic data and the amazing work being done by the these groups . Designed & Developed by M.U. Ansari | Contact: [email protected]

Structure of Inciteful Paper Discovery The Paper Discovery tool builds a network of papers from citations, uses network analysis algorithms to analyze the network, and gives you the information you need to quickly get up to speed on that topic. You can find the most similar papers , important papers as well as prolific authors, journals and institutions . Literature Connect Intended for interdisciplinary scholars trying to bridge two domains, it allows you to enter two papers and it will give you an i nteractive visualization showing you how they are connected by the literature. From there you can send the papers you find into our Paper Discovery tool to find other relevant literature which happened to not be the "shortest path" between the two papers. Designed & Developed by M.U. Ansari | Contact: [email protected]

Insight Over 240,000,000 papers The Inciteful database has coverage over the majority of academic papers in peer reviewed journals as well as books. Hundreds of thousands more are added every month. Almost 2 billion citations We collect citation information from a variety of data sources to ensure as much coverage possible as citations are the cornerstone of our site. Whether you want to use the pre-defined analyses or you are a power user wanting to explore the data with SQL , Inciteful gives you the tools you need. Built to be flexible Designed & Developed by M.U. Ansari | Contact: [email protected]

The easiest way to get started is by having a paper that covers a topic in which you are interested. You can either use the search box to type in the title or enter the DOI of the paper if you can’t find it through the search. For this example we will attempt to find the latest papers about methods of measuring segregation. We will use the following as the seed paper but you can use whatever you’d like: Paper Discovery Start with a paper The Fragmented Evolution of Racial Integration since the Civil Rights Movement Designed & Developed by M.U. Graph Based on the foundational seed papers , a comprehensive graph will be constructed. This graph's underlying structure is determined by the intricate network of citations and co-citations between papers. Within this graph, a plethora of both pertinent and tangential connections may be observed. As you proceed, the task at hand involves the creation of your personalized graph, achieved by seamlessly incorporating the most optimal papers from the provided list. It is important to note that the tool "Inciteful" empowers you to include a maximum of five papers , strategically chosen to enhance the overall outcome of the graph. Designed & Developed by M.U. Ansari | Contact: [email protected]

Lets Skip the Similar Works The first table covers the Most Important papers , as measured by the PageRank algorithm . PageRank goes beyond simple citation counts and it values papers which are cited by other important papers , so you don’t need to have a lot of citations to be important, just be cited by important papers. Given the nature of academic literature and how it takes time to build up citations , these papers tend to be the older papers in the graph. They typically represent the seminal papers in the field. You can also click on any of the paper titles to get more information about them, similar to what is presented at the top of the current page. Most Important Papers Designed & Developed by M.U. Ansari | Contact: [email protected]

This section uses a link prediction algorithm to show you the most similar papers based on who these papers cite. If the seed paper cites many of the same papers that another paper does, then they are considered similar. The effect of similar papers is the inverse of important papers. Since papers which are published after the seed paper have a better chance of citing the same papers, these papers tend to be more recent papers in the field.
