The Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) is the governing body of softball in the Philippines. It is a private sports organization for softball, as recognized by the National Sport Association (NSA). It is also a regular member of the Philippine Olympic Committee.
ASAPHIL is accredited by the International Softball Federation which is the world's governing body for softball. It is also accredited by the Asian Softball Association.

American troops introduced softball in the country and it was first called "indoor baseball". Initially, it was a game for girls. A Brief History of Softball
• Indoor baseball was formally introduced in local public schools to replace basketball as game for schoolgirls • It soon became the No. 1 sport among women in Bicol region and the Visayas • Philippines took the lead in introducing indoor baseball, forerunner of the present-day softball, to other Asian countries such as Japan & China 1911
• Philippines sent two girls teams in Far Eastern Games in Shanghai, China to demonstrate the game - Softball was made an official event in the national interscholastic(public schools) meet. 1951 1915
• At the end of the Pacific War, a regional series for women was launched • The Philippine Blu Boys placed second to Japan after a tensely fought final, 8-1, in the just-concluded 8th Asian Men Softball Championship 1951
Softball officials are known as umpires, other term of umpire is referee or judge, and each has a different responsibility depending on where he covers the field. The umpires must ensure the rules of the game are followed, and there is a decisive winner and loser based on fair play and accurate calls based upon what happens in the game. RESPONSIBILITIES AND PURPOSE
Judges or Referees are the ones who determine who's the winner in this game. They also Inspect sports equipment and observe all participants to ensure safety. Signal participants and other officials when infractions occur or to regulate play or competition.
The baselines will be 65 feet. The distance from pitcher's mound to home plate will be 50 feet. RULES FIELD
A team must have 9 players to start or to continue a game with the maximum of 10 players (not including the extra player). RULES PLAYERS
A player is officially in the game when his/her name has been entered on the official score sheet. Once a player leaves the line-up, he/she may re- enter the game. FREE SUBSTITUTION/All teams must turn in batting order. No pinch runners...only in case of injury and that player cannot return to the game. RULES SUBSTITUTE
The captain is the only player who may address the officials during the game, but only on matters of rules interpretation. RULES CAPTAIN
No metal screws or screw-in cleats are allowed. Rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets are advised not to be worn. Bats must be official softball bats. RULES EQUIPMENT

ABOUT SOFTBALL Games consist of 7 innings. There is a 50 minute time limit. Each team is responsible for providing a scorekeeper. The catcher is recommended to wear a mask. Runners may not leave the base until the ball has been struck by the batter. Bring your own gloves and bats, balls will be provided.
HAND SIGNALS Why Hand Signals is important? Hand signals make communication easy. It's beneficial not only for the players or referees but also the spectators. As a result, the proceedings of the game and interruptions are easily translated. It's a quick way to inform what's going on during the game.
HAND SIGNALS IN SOFTBALL 1. DO NOT PITCH The Pitcher should raise one hand with the palm facing pitcher, shall be declared if the Pitcher pitches while the umpire his/her hand in said position.
HAND SIGNAL S IN SOFTBALL To indicate that the ball shall begin or resumed the umpire shall call verbally at the same time motion the pitcher to deliver the ball. 2. PLAY BALL
To indicate suspension of play, the umpire shall and at the same time extend both arms above his/her head. 3. TIME OUT/ FOUL BALL/ DEAD BALL HAND SIGNALS IN SOFTBALL

HAND SIGNALS IN SOFT BALL 5. STRIKE OUT The umpire shall raise his/her right hand upward, indicate the number of strike by the fingers at the same time calling "STRIKE". OUT first to hammer at 90 degrees or greater.

To indicate that the players is "safe" the umpire shall extend both arms diagonally in front of the body with palm towards the ground. 7. SAFE HAND SIGNALS IN SOFTBALL

The information referring to positioning and the calling of plays is written for ideal circumstances and for the possible positioning for the majoring of plays. Proper positioning can be achieved if you think in terms of " keeping the play in front of you" .
