Introduction A smoke detector is a safety device that senses smoke, a key indicator of fire . It automatically activates an alarm to alert occupants . Used in homes, offices, and industries for fire prevention . Based on photoelectric or ionization principles . Provides early warning before fire spreads.

Block Diagram

Explaination Battery - The battery provides the required DC power supply to the entire circuit . Usually , a 9V battery is used in such circuits . Diode - The diode is connected in series with the battery to protect the circuit from reverse polarity . If the battery is connected backward, the diode blocks the current and prevents damage . Voltage Regulator - The regulator (like IC 7805) converts the input voltage (e.g., 9V) into a constant 5V DC output . This ensures that the IC 555 and other components receive a stable voltage for reliable operation . IC 555 Timer - The IC 555 acts as a comparator and signal generator in this smoke detector circuit . It receives input signals from the infrared sensor. BUZZER - Here buzzer is used for alarming purpose whenever the smoke detec ng circuit detects the smoke then the buzzer will start buzzing here the buzzer used is piezoelectric buzzer.

Advantages Early detection of fire . Fully automatic operation . High sensitivity and reliability . Low power consumption . Compact and easy to install . Cost-effective and easy maintenance . Can connect to centralized fire alarm systems.

Disadvantages False alarms due to dust, steam, or cooking smoke . Requires regular cleaning and testing . Limited coverage area per detector . Power or battery failure affects performance . Environmental factors (humidity, airflow) may affect sensing.

Applications Residential homes and apartments . Offices , schools, and hospitals . Industrial plants and factories . Shopping malls and theaters . Storage areas, laboratories, and hotels.
