Balanced and Unbalanced Forces
Objectives Define balanced and unbalanced forces. Differentiate balanced and unbalanced forces.
GROUP ACTIVITY
Directions. The class will be divided into 5 groups. Each group will be given a situation in which they will explain how balanced and unbalanced forces happen.

Video Analysis Watch a video on Balanced and Unbalanced Forces. Each group will determine how balanced and unbalanced forces act upon the situation assigned to them.
GROUP 1 A PERSON IN STANDING POSITION
GROUP 2 TWO PERSONS ARE PUSHING THE SAME BOX FROM OPPOSITE SIDES
GROUP 3 TUG OF WAR
GROUP 4 KICKING A BALL
GROUP 5 SEE SAW
PRESENTATION OF OUTPUTS
Group 1: A person in standing position BALANCED FORCES : The floor is pushing the boy upwards, the gravity is pulling the boy downwards. - equal and opposite forces are acting on an object. - NO UNBALANCED FORCES
Group 2 : T wo persons are pushing the same box from opposite sides. : If two persons are pushing the same box from opposite sides, the box will remain still. (BALANCED FORCES) UNBALANCED FORCES : The object will move only if one person applies more force than the other
Group 3 : Tug of war BALANCED FORCES : if the force applied by persons on both the sides is the same or equal, the rope will not move . UNBALANCED FORCES : The rope will move ,only wgen the force applied by one of the team is more than the other
Group 4 : Kicking a Ball BALANCED FORCE : ground is pushing the ball and the gravity is pulling the ball UNBALANCED FORCES : when someone kicks the ball, a large force acts on the ball and this creates an imbalance in the forces, that moves the ball.
Group 5 : SEE SAW BALANCED FORCE : It will stay balanced if the weight of both the children is the same or same force is being applied at both ends. UNBALANCED FORCE :If a heavier person sits at any side, it will incline the seesaw towards the ground.
Explain : Use the concepts learned from the lesson.
Extend Search at least 3 situations showing balanced forces and 3 situations of unbalanced forces.
