BASIC PERFORMANCE OF A BUILDING CLO2 : Explain the basic performance of buildings related to its internal, external environment (PLO3, C2)

Daylight and Usage Daylighting also calls for  controlling the amount of heat that enters a building . Because the sun is such a powerful source to light buildings, it can also produce tremendous amounts of heat. If not planned properly, using natural lighting can result in undesirable heat gains. One important point is controlling glare. Daylight is a free and natural source of illumination. Not only can it offset electrical lighting energy usage,  it is essential for the health & wellbeing of building occupants . Daylighting impacts a project's success: affecting everything from planning, performance, selling, and the end-user experience.

Daylight and Usage The overall objective of daylighting is  to minimize the amount of artificial light and reduce electricity costs , but it can also lower HVAC costs as well. Electrical lighting produces a lot of heat, whereas, if properly controlled, natural lighting generates hardly any heat at all.

Local Climate & Meteorological Influence Changing rainfall, wind, temperature, storm and other climatic patterns will all influence building design – for example, by  requiring buildings in some parts of the country to cope with stronger wind loads or more intense rainfall . Buildings should be designed to minimise greenhouse gas emissions from energy use A milder climate will reduce the durability of building materials  and affect the indoor climate of buildings. Warmer summers will introduce a greater need for cooling. There are different climate factors that must be considered in civil operations, building constructions and building designs. The most significant climate factors are as follows:  weather temperature, soil temperature, angle and intensity of sunlight, relative humidity, direction and wind speed, rainfall and sunlight .

Sun Shading Device Shading devices on the external side of the window include  shutters, awnings, canopies, blinds, and projecting horizontal and vertical fins . Correctly designed, these sun controls are the most effective of all for reducing solar radiation since the absorbed heat is dissipated externally.

Sun Shading Device

Sun Shading Device Solar control and shading can be provided by a wide range of building components including: Landscape features such as mature trees or hedge rows; Exterior elements such as overhangs or vertical fins; Horizontal reflecting surfaces called light shelves; Low shading coefficient (SC) glass; and, Interior glare control devices such as Venetian blinds or adjustable louvers.

Benefits of Sun Shading Device 1. ARCHITECTURAL APPEAL Architects utilize different sunshades and related products that not only lead to energy efficiency, but also do not compromise on the style and design of a structure.

Benefits of Sun Shading Device 1. REDUCED ENERGY LOSS External window shades reduce solar heat gain and improve the comfort inside a building. Their use also ensures that your cooling and heating bills are reduced to a minimum. That’s why shading devices are a vital component in energy-efficient buildings and architecture. Sun shading reduces the energy requirement for lighting and optimizes the use of natural daylight throughout a building.

Benefits of Sun Shading Device 1. INCREASED COMFORT The correct use of heat and light in any work or living space can make it more comfortable for the occupants. Sun control and shading devices are often used to improve the visual comfort for users as they can help control sun glares and significantly reduce contrast ratios, also reducing the strain on eyes. Not only does this promote indoor comfort, but the regular use of shading devices can also stimulate productivity.
