What is Bullying ? Bullying is an activity of repeated, aggressive behavior intended to hurt another individual, physically, mentally or emotionally. Bullying is regarded as by a person behaving in a certain way to gain power over another person . Bullying means Singling out others for repeated abuse. It is a pattern of behavior in which one individual is chosen as the target of repeated aggression by one or more others.
Types of Bullying VERBAL BULLYING: This is any bullying that is done by speaking. Calling names, spreading rumors, threatening somebody, and making fun of others are all forms of verbal bullying. Verbal bullying is saying or writing mean things. Verbal bullying is one of the most common types of bullying. In verbal bullying the means used to bully is their voice. PHYSICAL BULLYING : This involves hurting a person or their possessions. Stealing,, hitting, fighting, and destroying property all are types of physical bullying. Physical bullying is rarely the first form of bullying that a target will experience. Often bullying will begin in a different form and progress to physical violence. Physical bullying also includes hitting/kicking/pinching, Spitting, Tripping/pushing ,Taking or breaking someone’s things, Making mean or rude hand gestures.
DISABILITY BULLYING Disabled people are disproportionately affected by bullying and abuse, and such activity has been cited as a hate crime. This form of bullying is done with people who are physically disabled, have learning disabilities, autism and developmental coordination disorder or are in some way differently abled. The additional area of concern is that those with learning disabilities, autism etc. are often not as able to explain things to other people, so are more likely to be disbelieved or ignored if they do complain. CYBER BULLYING This is the act of harming or harassing through information technology networks in a repeated and deliberate manner . Cyberbullying is the use of technology like the internet, email , cell phones, social media or pictures to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target a person . Every 1 among 11 people in India are cyber bullied. ( Kirandeep Kaur, Damanjit Sandhu 2016)
Cyber bullying includes: Sending inappropriate text messages. Posting statements online that are vulgar or unacceptable. Sending or posting pictures that are not permitted by you. Making negative comments. Blackmailing with certain demands. Stalking and use of intimidation. Threats of violence or death. Secretly-recorded photos or videos that were taken without the subject’s knowledge. Hate-related communications or actions.
ACTIVITY : On a chart paper, having an outline of a full body person, students will write unkind, rude, and disrespectful statements all over the outline. These are statements that could be made to another person like, “You’re a loser, Nobody likes you, You are dumb .” After this is completely filled with a variety of negative comments, have the students will crumple the drawing, and then un-crumple it. Explaining the students that these drawings are examples of what negative comments can do to a person who is bullied. Bullying comments can destroy a person’s self image and often leads to a defeated body language, self perception and negative outlook towards life in the victim.

TELL ME A FEW THINGS THAT YOU ARE BORN WITH AND HAVE NO CONTROL OVER IT ?
Things we need to stop shaming each other about Appearance . “ you are ugly” “you are not my type” Dress size . “ you must a size L or XL or maybe XXL” Skin colour . “ too dark” “too brown” Mental health . “he is a retard” “he is a psycho and he even take pills for it” Body hair…. “Being too hairy”. “ she is too hairy to be a girl “ Femininity/ Masculinity . “Man up” “he is such a girl” “He cries like a girl” “ such a tomboy”
Do’s and don'ts if you are bullied DO’S Inform an Adult. (parents, teachers, elder siblings) Don’t show your feelings to the bully. Be confident. Report cyber bullying. DON’TS Keep it to yourself Blame yourself React with violence Isolate yourself Think of yourself as a victim Harm yourself Neglect your health and mental wellbeing
Don’t by a BYSTANDER instead be an UPSTANDER Watching or witnessing something wrong and not doing anything about it is equally wrong. REPORT IF THE PERSON BEING BULLIED CANNOT. Don’t say: ‘Just stand up for yourself’ Do say: “I’m here for you, what do you want to do about it?” Don’t say: ‘Stop being so sensitive’ Do say: ‘It ok to feel upset/angry’ Don’t say: ‘Ignore it ’ Do say: ‘You don’t deserve to be treated like this ’ Don’t say: ‘Telling someone will just make it worse, so don’t bother’ Do say: ‘Talk to someone you trust.’
Hope we all will keep each other safe THANK YOU !!!!
