D E F I N I T I O N A case-control study is a type of observational study that looks at people who have a disease or condition (cases) and people who do not have the disease or condition (controls). The researchers then compare the two groups to see if there are any differences in their exposure to risk factors that may be associated with the disease or condition.

They're usually retrospective (looking back in time). 4. They often use medical records. 5. They can use a variety of designs (nested, hospital-based, population-based). 6. They're typically used to study rare diseases. 7. They have limitations (recall bias, selection bias). 8. They can be less expensive and time-consuming than other types of studies.
