INTRODUCTION- CATARACT IS A CONDITION IN WHICH A CLOUDY THICK REGION DEVELOPS IN THE EYE LENS DUE TO THE CLUMPING OF EYE PROTEINS THAT UNABLE THE LENS TO CONVEY CLEAR IMAGES TO THE RETINA . RETINA CONVERTS THE LIGHT ENTERING THE EYE THROUGH THE LENS INTO SIGNALS WHICH ARE TRASNMITTED TO THE OPTIC NERVE TO BE CARRIED TO THE BRAIN .
DEFINITION According to janice l.Hinkle a cataract is a lens opacity or cloudiness cataract affect nearly 24.4 million americans who are 40 years or older, or about 6 people in this age range. According to bt basavanthappa cataract is a major problem cataract is a lens opacity or cloudness cataract can develop in one or both eyes and at any age.
INCIDENCE 94 million people Age 30 -85 24.4 million people Age 40 and older
ANATOMY
PHYSIOLOGY VISION :=)it gathers focuses and transmits light through a lens to create an image of the surrounding environment. RETINA;=)it is the inner nervous tissue layer .it contains visual reseptors known as rods and cones. RODS;=) These are sensitive to dim light or are suitable for scotopic vision .is a visual pigment found in rods. CONES;=) these are responsible for photopic vision as they are sensitive to bright daylight in cones is found as a visual violet pigment.
TYPES NUCLEAR CATARACT =) it develops in tha lens and turns the nucleus (or center) yellow or brown. CORTICAL CATARACT =) it develops along the edges of nucleus and is wedge shape . POSTERIOR SUB –CAPSULAR CATARACT=) it affect the back of the lens and develops faster than the nuclear and cortical cataract. CONGENITAL CATARACT =) it is either present at birth or may develop in a year old body. SECONDARY CATARACT =) it is cause by diseases( glucoma and diabetes) or medication .
TRAUMATIC CATARACT =) it develops after an eye injury and takes sever years to progress. RADIATION CATARACT =) it develops after radiotherapy of a cancer patient.

MEDICAL MANAGEMENT DRUG NAME ROUTE DOSE ALPHA BLOCKER TABLET HYTRIN ORAL 10MG BETA BLOCKERS INJ. TIMOLOL IV 10-20MG MALEATE ANTIINFLAMMATORY LOTEMAX DROP 1-2DROP
SURGICAL MANAGEMENT LENS REPLACEMENT
EXTRACAPSULAR CATARACT EXTRACTION ( ECCE)
INTRACAPSULAR CATARACT EXTRACTION
NURSING MANAGEMENT PUPIL EXAMINATION =) measuring the patient ability to see objects clearly at a distance and near . ENTRAOCULAR MUSCLE FUNCTION =) assesment the movement of the eye . OPTHOLMOSCOP Y =) Examin the interior of the eye.
PREVENTION MANAGE CHRONIC CONDITIONS LIMIT ALCOHOL ADEQUATE SLEEP MAY HELP REDUCE EYE INFLAMMATION EAT A BALANCE DIET DON’T SMOKE
HEALTH EDUCATION Teach patient and family proper hygiene and eye care. To doctor pescribe at medicine to take a time a time to time medication . Diet should be taken a healthy balance diet. Regular health checkup.
CONCLUSION CATARACT ARE A COMMON AGE RELATED EYE CONDITION THAT RESULTS IN CLOUDY VISION PROBLEMS .THEY CAN AFFECT OLDER ADULTS AND PEOPLE WITH CERTAIN MEDICAL CONDITIONS OR INJURIES.
